volgadon Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I never thought that Johnny Depp playing a comical drug addict might sway me from watching another movie by him.The book is just as weird.
Damien the Leper Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 The book is just as weird. There's a book, too?!?! I felt like I needed Dr. Drew for rehab after watching the movie.
volgadon Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 There's a book, too?!?! I felt like I needed Dr. Drew for rehab after watching the movie.Hunter Thompson wrote quite a few books.
blackstrap Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Just watched MIB-3 on bluray. Fun. What I really like is all the extra stuff on the disks that show all the work and planning that goes into a production such as this. Good or bad, movies are quite the creative ambition.
altersteve Posted December 4, 2012 Author Posted December 4, 2012 (edited) For my fellow superhero fans, check out this amazing new teaser poster for Man of Steel, the upcoming Superman movie set for release next year:This wasn't at all what I was expecting, but I love it. I can't help but wonder how Superman being arrested will play into the story, and this image (which tells an incredible story by itself) certainly adds credence to the filmmakers' claims of this movie being a lot darker and more serious than previous Superman adaptations. I'm very excited. Edited December 4, 2012 by altersteve
Walden Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 There's a book, too?!?! I felt like I needed Dr. Drew for rehab after watching the movie. If you thought that after watching the movie you'd need Dr Drew for rehab, after reading the book you'll need a team composed of Dr. Drew and Dr. Phil, while being confined at the Betty Ford Clinic for several weeks....if you consider the movie traumatic/demented/twisted, the book is even more so. 2

Linda Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Since I live in Germany, I have seen a movie which you certainly do not know. The film has the title "In the wedding dress through Africa". He deals with a young woman who wants to get married in Africa and was deceived by her future husband shortly before the wedding. She flees and meets her ex-boyfriend who had left her. A said ex-boyfriend helps a priest and still moreover and his orphanage is tangled up in diamond smuggling. Of course there is a happy end.
Tacenda Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 (edited) On Thanksgiving, I watched "On Golden Pond" with my family, well they sort of watched while playing Phase 10. Love that movie, but I forgot about some of the language, not the dreaded F bomb though! I'd recommend it to anyone. Edited December 8, 2012 by Tacenda
Tacenda Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 (edited) Went to see Les Miserables. It was a movie I won't forget. Never thought I'd like opera, as this is close to it. Never saw the play. Didn't know any of the premise beforehand or the spiritual side of it and I'm hooked. Can't wait to buy the soundtrack if there is one. Edited December 30, 2012 by Tacenda 1

Garden Girl Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 (edited) Just watched MIB-3 on bluray. Fun. What I really like is all the extra stuff on the disks that show all the work and planning that goes into a production such as this. Good or bad, movies are quite the creative ambition. What amazes me is the number of people involved in the production of a movie... even the bad movies. I actually like to read the "credits" as I watch for certain things like the art components or who does the costuming... the locations... music and who performs it...etc etc. And sometimes the credits just roll on and on with several hundred people. No wonder a movie has to make millions of dollars just to break even.GGedit to add: the last movie I watched was "Trouble with the Curve" with Clint Eastood. He is amazing. This movie was not exciting in action per se, a la Eastwood, but more of a story about the strained relationship between Eastwood and his daughter. He plays an aging baseball scout for the Cincinatti Reds... she has become a successful lawyer... very good story. Edited December 30, 2012 by Garden Girl
thesometimesaint Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 GG:There many more people behind the camera than in front of it. All or nearly all work for union scale. So it doesn't matter to their paycheck if the movie makes a profit or not. They get paid. The stars OTOH have a choice. They can work for an agreed to price, or take a percentage of the profits. Sometimes it works out to their advantage to take the percentage, often it does not.
altersteve Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 Watched Les Miserables for the second time this morning. Almost burst into tears at the end of it. Seriously, wow. Now I need to read the book ASAP.
followerofemmanuel Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 (edited) I most recently watched a made-for-TV movie titled In God's Country which tells a fictionalized tale that alludes to FLDS and their behaviors and beliefs. It was very eye opening. If it this movie merits truth than it was very disturbing especially due to the abusive behaviors both physically and emotionally.I also watch the show Sister Wives and I do not see abuse or child brides there. Their lifestyle paints a very different side to polygamy. I'm not sure if their happy but they have chosen to live this difficult lifestyle out of religious conviction. This show has caused me to be very sympathetic to their lifestyle. The Brown's care for their children, everyone is consenting and they are actively trying to live out their faith. The Brown's care for their children, everyone is consenting and they are actively trying to live out their faith.I watched the season finale last Sunday. In it they were giving their son a "send off " to college where they made him a quilt with their pictures transferred on it with a handwritten message from the family member. Then a video of each of them telling him of their memories of him. He was going to a college 30 min. away! I can't imagine what they'd do if he were going across country. It made me think that I could do a lot better at making my kids feel special. I never thought I'd feel any kind of acceptance of polygamy until watching the Brown family. For years I've been against it with closed eyes or Warren Jeff's group saturating my mind. 1

ERayR Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I know the real story is much worse. You base this on what?
ERayR Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I've read several first hand accounts.Don't get me wrong I am NOT defending FLDS but you should not base your preceptions of the FLDS members and their lives on a few sensationalized accounts. It would be like what happens when someone bases their perception of The LDS Church on the account of Ann Eliza Webb or Fawn Brodie or Martha Beck.
Garden Girl Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 (edited) I just finished watching "Munich"... the story of the 1972 killing of 11 Israeli Olympic Team members at the Munich games. Steven Spielberg was the director... it was very good... It portrays the secret Israeli team that targeted 11 individuals responsible for the killings. Nine of the eleven were tracked down and killed.Spielberg produces yet again another excellent film based on real events...I remember these events, at least those at the Olympics... wasn't aware of the team's retaliation...GG Edited January 1, 2013 by Garden Girl

I saw it when it aired on Lifetime I believe.
