wcdrotar Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I contacted the moderators asking them to remove my profile, and pre-emptively they said they would ignore it. I also can't change my username. The policy is you cannot get banned by asking for it.So how does one go about getting their account removed? Or go about getting banned then?

Why not just ignore the board on your own?
wcdrotar Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 For me it's because the board also makes profiles here searchable by google. I really wouldn't care if it wasn't the first thing that pops up and many of us are not really LDS anymore. Why would you WANT to trap people in a group they don't want to be in??

I really wouldn't care if it wasn't the first thing that pops up and many of us are not really LDS anymore. Why would you WANT to trap people in a group they don't want to be in??So you don't want to be associated with LDS at all any more? Because you can edit your profile to indicate that you don't see yourself as LDS anymore. You are right about searching leading to profiles, are you going to be removing your profiles on the LDS singles sites? That's what came up first when I googled. Your board profile was way down on the list, and only your recent activity is showing. Edited June 19, 2011 by calmoriah
Stargazer Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 So you don't want to be associated with LDS at all any more? Because you can edit your profile to indicate that you don't see yourself as LDS anymore. You are right about searching leading to profiles, are you going to be removing your profiles on the LDS singles sites? That's what came up first when I googled. Your board profile was way down on the list, and only your recent activity is showing.I originally signed up on this board with another user name, posted a few times, then just forgot about the place for awhile. When I came back, in typical fashion for my scatterbrainedness, I couldn't remember what my original user account was, so I signed up as Stargazer. Some time later I discovered my first login and asked the administration to get rid of that account. And they did! Maybe there's been a policy change since then, but I don't know why they wouldn't do this for you. There may be a technical problem with renaming your account, though. One way of developing the database system for a forum is to make the account name the primary key in the user table. When this is done then it is technically impossible to change it. Well, it is not impossible, but a mere user (even an administrator) can't do it. I am a software developer and I can think of a way to do it, but I doubt the mods have access to the database at the level required. And even if they did, the way is perilous and could cause a fatal integrity error. That's poor data design, by the way, but I'm not the developer of this board's software, so there we are. I operate a discussion board, too (not this software), and I can't change user account names, either. On the other hand, deleting a user should be possible, but it leaves a lot of holes in threads where you posted (since your posts need to be deleted, too), and that could cause some problems in itself. You may have to just suck it up, sorry to say.
Jeff K. Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Posting on a board or getting a board profile, almost any forum board profile, is like a tattoo. 1
Messenger Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Posting on a board or getting a board profile, almost any forum board profile, is like a tattoo.Jeff K is exactly right. It’s been this way for many years on nearly every forum. So, I simply change my USER ID when I join a new forum and when I leave the old one I change my profile information. Most forum admins don’t remove a profile because this removes the posts as well, which leaves a lot of dead links. On one LDS forum, I disagreed with the forum admin about allowing posts about temple items and covenants. I threatened to write a letter to elder Ballard, who had endorsed the forum. I was quickly banned; they changed my name to BANNED USER (LOL) and left my profile intact, and blocked my ability to change my profile info. In fact, one of the idiot admins blocked my computer from even visiting the site. A call to the forum owner changed all of that like right now. The site owner ended up banning the admin in a strange reversal. But I rather liked the idea of standing up for what I believed in, and requested to have my “BANNED USER” id to remain. My email addresses change every several years anyways, as well as where I live. And I never use the same user ID from forum to forum. My advice would be that if you don’t like a forum, just leave. I get tired of a forum about every year or so. As for leaving the church, that’s an entirely different thing. In my opinion, the church really isn’t about electrons, computer chips or IP protocols. The church also isn’t bricks, mortar, wood or glass. The church is the simply based on the pure love of Christ; If we have it within us, and keep it within us, the church travels with us wherever we go.

I really wouldn't care if it wasn't the first thing that pops up and many of us are not really LDS anymore. Why would you WANT to trap people in a group they don't want to be in??People's lives change, that's true--but there are some things you don't have control over.As others have mentioned, this seems to be the norm for forums that they can't or won't delete a user; it's not a matter of wanting to 'trap' people. I don't think you should worry about your profile on this board--it is full of non-LDS and ex-LDS, it's not just for believers. And Calmoriah is correct--your other profiles come up first--If you are concerned, it would be in your best interests to delete or edit those. I didn't even see this one-it must have been on a later page.
cinepro Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 As of now, the first thing that comes up isn't this forum:http://tinyurl.com/64yw9nm
thesometimesaint Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Simply don't post anymore. I doesn't take very long for you to become ancient history(Long forgetten about). I can't tell you how many people have come and gone since I joined the Board.
