This is momentous news, but far more important for its symbolism and Osama's connection to 9/11 than any tactical purpose in the current war on terror.

But it needed to be done, and I can't wait to find out about the mission in great detail. Hopefully the movie will be directed by

.

Too bad he couldn't have been captured. No doubt he was not willing to surrender.

They're reporting this morning that the SEALS were under orders to kill him and recover the body. Capture wasn't an option.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if Americans could unite in celebrating achievements in eradicating poverty, caring for the sick, and truly exemplifying Christian ideals.

Instead, we see celebrations of war and killing (which costs trillions), and protests against providing heath care (which costs far less).

Excerpt from What we say goes by Noam Chomsky and David Barsamian:

I don’t know if it happened, but according to the account from Saint Augustine, a pirate was brought to Alexander, who asked him, How dare you molest the seas with your piracy? The pirate answered, How dare you molest the world? I have a small ship, so they call me a pirate. You have a great navy, so they call you an emperor. But you’re molesting the whole world. I’m doing almost nothing by comparison. That’s the way it works. The emperor is allowed to molest the world, but the pirate is considered a major criminal.

Amen to that!

Watching these patterns, my brother, who wouldn't understand the appeal of having an archenemy called Satan?

While I along with others am releaved to hear a murderous terrorist is dead... I am not optimistic of the difference it makes. Will this cause the terrorist cells to throw down their weapons of war? No, if history is any indication, it will make the fanatics more fanatical... and those who feared him and what he stood for perhaps more complacent. In fact it is a rather curious thing the timing and if you want to be a real conspiracy buff, how do we know for sure he is really dead? I mean he has been living in luxury and safty for 11 years... the general idea was that he was living in a cave like a rat. Also even if we really did "get him" what does that really mean for the war on terror? I can't help but think of the Nephite battles in which Teancum assasinated a murderous terrorist and his brother came up in his place! So I do not sigh a big sigh of relief that anything is really over... there is still the battle of armageddon to worry about... it surely will come and the only thing that will save us is repentance and faith on the Lord Jesus Christ.

If there would be anything good to come out of this, it's my hope that it would show the American people that with proper teamwork, and a competent government, they can make changes for the better instead of fighting amongst one another for supremacy. I'd say many republicans owe Obama a bit of an apology. Then again, perhaps all of us misunderestimated Bush a little bit as well.

While I agree with the sentiment, it bears noting that Defense ($694 bn) is 20% of the FY2010 US Budget while Medicare/Federal Medicaid ($724 bn) is 22%.

Yes, charity is more commendable than war, but Govt health care doesn't "cost far less"

...and protests against [a government takeover of health care which costs far more in the long run and is a threat to liberty]
I fixed it for you.

You are looking at a snapshot. I'm watching the movie.

If I send a young man off to war, the cost is represented by the meager pay he receives, his equipment, housing, etc. When he is wounded and needs lifetime support, the cost expands to include medical care and the loss of productivity he could have otherwise provided. This ignores the destruction of other lives and property caused by war.

If I heal a young man of a disease, the cost ends when he is healed and he then pays it back by being productive.

See analysis here.

Well, at least your avatar is laughing when you say that . . .
It's really not funny. You ought to watch the youtube video I added to it, showing Obama admitting he's a liar whose real goal is gov't control over the economy. Auf Wiedersehen, capitalism, liberty, and quality of life.

No, not really. The just wars are costing us comparatively little compared to what we waste on social programs which are the root cause of our 1.5 trillion dollar yearly (and rising) deficit. You could cut social spending in half and still give the poorest 40 million people $20,000 in cash each. That means a "poor" family of four could receive up to $80,000 yearly. I wouldn't necessarily use cash handouts as a solution, but it illustrates the point.

Waging righteous war is a Christian ideal. The USA is not to blame for the wars we are involved in now.

Yes I gues there is some hope that the lesson of the Obama administration might be recognized. Incompetence is very dangerous.

Disgusting, considering one of the social programs included ACORN, a corrupt group of left-wing cronies who used tax dollars for voter fraud and left-wing propaganda.

I must have missed that part of Christ's sermon on the mount . . . and so did everybody else who reported it.

I must have missed when the Sermon on the Mount was the final word on all Christian ideals?

that is not a bad idea.

hand out 80k with strings attached, the attached strings would require investing a portion. Just think of the economy growth. poor people get a 4-10 fold increase income, which means lots of spending, the money comes with a requirement of investment in approved areas and the investment requirement, with some interest on the investment paid back to the fed - these investments would be another boost to the ecomony. So it would seem like a win all around.

It continues to utterly amaze me how we take a topic like this and turn it into a platform for spewing political views, stances, and party lines.

I wonder what those brave American soldiers (that entered that compound yesterday) would think of this.

Seems to me, no matter what political view you hold, there is a time to be an American first.

Peace,

You are welcome to cite a passage of scripture spoken by the Savior that reconciles His injunction to turn the other cheek and to freely forgive those who wrong us with the claim that "Waging righteous war is a Christian ideal."

Have nice and peace-filled day.
