bluebell
Nibley's "temple and the cosmos" (or something to that effect) is supposedly wonderful and very enlightening. I think Boyd K. Packer has one entitled "the Holy Temple" as well. Link to comment
kolipoki09
Does anyone know of any lists of books and talks that deal with the Temple? Thanks in advance! You can never go wrong with Nibley if you're looking for anything putting the endowment in a historical perspective. Nearly all 19 of his Collected Works deal with the temple in one aspect or another. Temple and Cosmos is great, as is The Message of the Joseph Smith Papyi. A great collection of these resources is Temple Study: http://www.templestudy.com/There are three very good documentary histories of the LDS temple offered here:http://signaturebooks.com/2010/02/quorum-of-the-anointed/http://signaturebooks.com/2010/02/nauvoo-endowment-companies/http://signaturebooks.com/2010/04/the-development-of-lds-temple-worship-1846-2000-a-documentary-history/To a lesser extent, I would recommend David John Buerger's "The Mysteries of Godliness," which received a very honest review here: http://byustudies.byu.edu/showTitle.aspx?title=6392Here's a good book from the Maxwell Institute as well: http://www.amazon.com/Temples-Ancient-World-Ritual-Symbolism/dp/087579811X Edited April 6, 2011 by kolipoki09 Link to comment

ChristKnight
The Gate of Heaven: Insights on the Doctrines and Symbols of the Temple by Matthew Brown. Great book so far, he goes through temples throughout Judeo-Christian history, tying LDS temples to the ancient ones, as well as showing interesting parallels in the rituals of the Catholic and Orthodox churches.
