LDS Guy 1986 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 The world will never "end". The Earth is the appointed dwelling place of the righteous throughout all eternity. In the sense that the Earth will inherit it's paradisaical glory you are correct. But in the context of the world referring to the various civilizations of man on the planet Earth, the world will end. Christ returns to cleans the world with fire and destroy the wicked, this is most definately the end of the civilizations and governments of mankind, and is the end of the world and the beginning of the Millennial reign of Jesus Christ.
Rivers Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 If the world ends it will be because we blew it up ourselves. No God necessary.Yes. It could be a self fulfulling prophcecy.
LDS Guy 1986 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 If the world ends it will be because we blew it up ourselves. No God necessary.Like global warming this assume that man has the power to destroy the Earth, which we do not. The Earth is far more powerful than man is currently, we have no weapons or the ability to make a weapon in any amount of foreseeable time that could actually destroy this planet. This is a prime case of man's ego being bigger than his strength is, we think so highly of ourselves yet we lack the power to destroy an insignificant planet in and insignificant solar system in an insignificant galaxy. Man has no power to impact this planet in any noticeable way, we are simply to insignificant as a species to have any noticeable impact. Now once we can start mastering the world around us, when we can figure out how to travel faster than the speed of light, or harvest dark matter as an energy source, ect. Then mankind will start to be able to have enough understanding of physics to potentially destroy this planet, man though is an infant when it comes to understanding anything. The problem is we are too foolish and arrogant to understand that as a people.
TAO Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I would say, we don't have weapons to destroy the Earth... we do have weapons which can destroy humanity though. Enough pollution in the atmosphere, and we will see quite severe consequences.
BookofMormonLuvr Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I would say, we don't have weapons to destroy the Earth... we do have weapons which can destroy humanity though. Enough pollution in the atmosphere, and we will see quite severe consequences. You are still in High School, correct?
LDS Guy 1986 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I would say, we don't have weapons to destroy the Earth... we do have weapons which can destroy humanity though. Enough pollution in the atmosphere, and we will see quite severe consequences.Destroying people isn't a hard task to accomplish we are not that hard to kill, so being able to kill all humans living on the earth is not a difficult task really, it is a terrible task but remember that God did it with a simple flood (with the exception of Noah and his family). Being able to destroy mankind is not the same as destroying the planet, no matter what we do we cannot destroy the planet, she is far more powerful than all the people that have lived, live currently, and will live in the future combined.
Deborah Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 We have precedence for multiple (an seemingly independent) prophets working at the same time.Jurisdiction is another matter.Very true. However, remember the times. There was no instant communication from one head and so the Lord had to raise of mouthpieces for different areas of his kingdom. As I said I believe that if for some reason a group of saints is cut off, the Lord will give them revelation for their needs.
Lightbearer Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Has anyone else heared about this.Yeah, heard it, it is a crock. If I were a betting man I would bet S1000 it will not happen on that date or in October, or for that matter in 2012... I will play "prophet" and say with much certainty that the second coming will not come before April 6th 2020... see anyone can do that... I have my own pet theory... but as already stated no man knows the day or the hour, yet in Amos 3:7 we know that God will inform His prophet to help His Saints prepare... He will not do it as some sensationalistic hogwash to sell books or videos. All of the signs of the times have not occured and I doubt that two months is enough time to fulfill them, or six months for that matter. But we will see for sure in 60 days...
CQUIRK Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Has anyone else heared about this.Yes, and the idea is more stupider then the man-made notion of a pre-tribulation rapture
krose Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 If a prophet declared such things I would still be wearyWhy would that make you tired?
Senator Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Very true. However, remember the times. There was no instant communication from one head and so the Lord had to raise of mouthpieces for different areas of his kingdom. As I said I believe that if for some reason a group of saints is cut off, the Lord will give them revelation for their needs.I was thinking of Lehi's Jerusalem, with many prophets raised up in the same year.
thesometimesaint Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 All due deference to George Lukas, and his Death Star, but we humans just don't have the ability to destroy this planet. However that doesn't mean that we can't make life rather uncomfortable, if not problematic, for every other creature including ourselves on it. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26979274/
Deborah Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I was thinking of Lehi's Jerusalem, with many prophets raised up in the same year. But they were unified in teaching the same thing. Much like today where Stake Presidents and Bishops will teach messages from SLC. Where we have a problem is when "prophets" rise up teaching different messages.
erichard Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 here is some of what they say....Hi,Did this come from the Daniel's Timeline bunch?A friend of mine gave me a dvd with a Daniel's Timeline presentation on it, and I did play it through eventually. I was not really impressed with it, but it did have some interesting things. I have yet to check out their online site, but I found it:http://www.danielstimeline.com/They do predict a bunch of things, including the exact period of the 7 year "tribulation", and the day of the Second coming (sometime in 2016). Richard
Senator Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 But they were unified in teaching the same thing. Much like today where Stake Presidents and Bishops will teach messages from SLC. Where we have a problem is when "prophets" rise up teaching different messages. We have no indication that these prophets worked under a coordinated effort. The point is in recognizing the possibility of unassociated prophets prophesying at the same time. I would find a unified (yet uncorrelated) prophetic message to be quite compelling.
Doctrine 612 Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 Hi,Did this come from the Daniel's Timeline bunch?A friend of mine gave me a dvd with a Daniel's Timeline presentation on it, and I did play it through eventually. Richardno i heard about this from a radio show called coast to coast, and then looked it up.I thought it was very interesting and funny just thought every one would get a kick out of it.
seriously honestly Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 no i heard about this from a radio show called coast to coast, and then looked it up.I thought it was very interesting and funny just thought every one would get a kick out of it.Coast to Coast? Ha! It seems like every time that show comes on someone is talking about seeing an elf or a fairy in their backyard. And yes I've heard that date too, along with a bunch of others.
LDS Guy 1986 Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Why would that make you tired?Cause that would take a lot of pondering and prayer, which would mentally and spiritually drain me for a while.
SeattleGrunge Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 If a prophet declared such things I would still be weary, remember Matthew 24:36 "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." We are not suppose to know the hour that Christ will arrive, this is taught in throughout the scriptures.Note what JS said about this..."No man knoweth the day or the hour when the Son of Man cometh." . . . Did Christ speak this as a general principle throughout all generations? Oh no; he spoke in the present tense. No man that was then living upon the footstool of God knew the day or the hour. But he did not say that there was no man throughout all generations that should know the day or the hour. No, for this would be in flat contradiction with other scripture, for the prophet says that God will do nothing but what he will reveal unto his servants the prophets [Amos 3:7]. Consequently, if it is not made known to the prophets it will not come to pass." Joseph Smith (Joseph Smith Commentary on the Bible, p. 112)
LDS Guy 1986 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Note what JS said about this...Where did I say I wouldn't accept the will of the Lord through his prophet, only that it would take much prayer and pondering on the issue.
SeattleGrunge Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Where did I say I wouldn't accept the will of the Lord through his prophet, only that it would take much prayer and pondering on the issue. Not so sound petty, but I didn't say you said that...I just said, "Note what JS said about this..." I don't think many know that JS said that. I didn't until a couple of years ago. Pretty interesting eh?
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Coast to Coast? Ha! It seems like every time that show comes on someone is talking about seeing an elf or a fairy in their backyard. And yes I've heard that date too, along with a bunch of others.I listen to George every once in a while. The thing I like most, is not the nutty stories, but how George is so respectful.I admit that I don't lisetn all the time.
bluebell Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Note what JS said about this...I agree that is very interesting. At the same time though, doesn't it kind of contradict the scriptures that say Christ will come 'as a theif in the night'?
LDS Guy 1986 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I agree that is very interesting. At the same time though, doesn't it kind of contradict the scriptures that say Christ will come 'as a theif in the night'?This is how I feel also, the scriptures say we will not know when Christ comes, and the opinion of Joseph Smith doesn't change that.
LDS Guy 1986 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Not so sound petty, but I didn't say you said that...I just said, "Note what JS said about this..." I don't think many know that JS said that. I didn't until a couple of years ago. Pretty interesting eh?Not really, Smith is a man he makes opinions and tells people them, I do the same, so does Thomas S. Monson, so does everyone. Now I can tell you that the scriptures tell us multiple times that Christ's Second Coming will be at an unknown hour, that he will return suddenly and without warning, like the thief in the night. "I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee" (Rev 3:3). I take the words from Christ's mouth over the word's from Smith's mouth, Christ is perfect Smith is not. Note that the only inspired statement we have from Smith about the return of Christ is in D&C 130:14-15, he is told that if he lived to be 85 years old he would see the face of the Son of Man, and he immediately states after this that he has no clue what this revelation means, if it means that Christ will return in 1890 or if if refers to him dying and seeing Christ in the Spirit World, he says in verse 17 "I believe that the coming of the Son of Man will not be any sooner than that time"So when under the inspiration of the Lord Smith admitted that he cannot know when the second coming will happen only that it will happen sometime after 1890. Heavenly Father gave us all the warning that we will ever receive about the time of the second coming in Matthew 24:4-33:"Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no mandeceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name
