Shots fired on my campus today. Charlie Kirk TPUSA leader dead

Calm, I recently listened to this radiowest podcast about the colleges getting rid of some of these vital humanity classes. It sickens me actually, because humans aren't born to be a machine and only worry about their pay. But should develop in many ways, that enrich their lives and others too. https://radiowest.kuer.org/show/radiowest/2025-09-02/what-are-the-humanities-good-for-anyway -

But that wasn't why the killer did it was it? He seems pretty far right but something different from anything imaginable. -

IMO, since the murder of Charlie, it made him into a martyr. Somewhat like Joseph Smith. Because Charlie started Turning Point, which sort of has tones of a religion or a belief system. -

I'm may not be reading enough of the replies or posts, what's upsetting about that? EDIT: Sorry Calm, I now get it. It's because Patel or the FBI kept getting it wrong and saying they caught the suspect and they didn't. EDIT: Here's a good reason why Patel, shouldn't be running the FBI, no way, no how. https://youtu.be/iXahcpaiNf8?si=QT4X7gUa62UkfAzp -

Yeah, that is something to think about. I think Donny is very much a conservative and like a lot of my former neighbors, ward members and my own family and friends they got on the bandwagon. And a few even mention on FB that they will not be silent any longer, in particular my niece on my husband's side. So I don't know what's to come besides divisiveness or a them vs us mentality, sadly. But you're right the Kirk's probably are doing well. -

I do have siblings like this, and it boggles my mind. And feel this ideology has wedged between us to where we aren't that close. I feel your pain. It's happening in so many families and you're not alone. And I often don't understand my siblings and their spouses not feeling those feelings you mention also. I hope you hold on long enough to see them (your family) come to some realizations, that you have already had. You've got this mission!! Not to make light of what you're going through. I'm your cheerleader though. -

I watched this video just now, that I think both sides would enjoy. And it dawned on me, Charlie would go to college kids with this "prove me wrong" thing. Is that because he thought they were more malleable? Or changeable? I'd like to see him debate the older crowd, but maybe he has, but believe the outcome might be significantly different. Just a thought, here's the YouTube that quite impressed me, especially the young woman. -

Very much agree with you! And with BlueDreams! There is a tide lately, and we've got to stop it before it's a tsunami. There's so much anger on both sides. On a significant day like today, 9/11, we can at least have the wonderful memory of our country coming together in a powerful way. I hope there's a cure to what is going on, or a miracle too. -

This is a better answer, it's in context and even took place in Utah at a church. And may help or hinder Charlie's words. I do believe in our 2nd Amendment rights for sure, more than ever at this point in my life. Not that I'm arguing over it. I found this on Snopes: Kirk genuinely made this statement during an April 5, 2023, TPUSA Faith event that took place on the Salt Lake City campus of Awaken Church. The Internet Archive's Wayback Machine hosts an archived YouTube video (unavailable on YouTube's website) showing the entire event. The quote begins at the 1:16:21 mark. Meanwhile, the PodBean account for the Awaken Church also hosts the audio from the same function, with the quote occurring at the 41:30 mark. AUDIENCE QUESTION: How's it going, Charlie? I'm Austin. I just had a question related to Second Amendment rights. We saw the shooting that happened recently and a lot of people are upset. But, I'm seeing people argue for the other side that they want to take our Second Amendment rights away. How do we convince them that it's important to have the right to defend ourselves and all that good stuff? CHARLIE KIRK: Yeah, it's a great question. Thank you. So, I'm a big Second Amendment fan but I think most politicians are cowards when it comes to defending why we have a Second Amendment. This is why I would not be a good politician, or maybe I would, I don't know, because I actually speak my mind. The Second Amendment is not about hunting. I love hunting. The Second Amendment is not even about personal defense. That is important. The Second Amendment is there, God forbid, so that you can defend yourself against a tyrannical government. And if that talk scares you — "wow, that's radical, Charlie, I don't know about that" — well then, you have not really read any of the literature of our Founding Fathers. Number two, you've not read any 20th-century history. You're just living in Narnia. By the way, if you're actually living in Narnia, you would be wiser than wherever you're living, because C.S. Lewis was really smart. So I don't know what alternative universe you're living in. You just don't want to face reality that governments tend to get tyrannical and that if people need an ability to protect themselves and their communities and their families. Advertisement: Now, we must also be real. We must be honest with the population. Having an armed citizenry comes with a price, and that is part of liberty. Driving comes with a price. 50,000, 50,000, 50,000 people die on the road every year. That's a price. You get rid of driving, you'd have 50,000 less auto fatalities. But we have decided that the benefit of driving — speed, accessibility, mobility, having products, services — is worth the cost of 50,000 people dying on the road. So we need to be very clear that you're not going to get gun deaths to zero. It will not happen. You could significantly reduce them through having more fathers in the home, by having more armed guards in front of schools. We should have a honest and clear reductionist view of gun violence, but we should not have a utopian one. You will never live in a society when you have an armed citizenry and you won't have a single gun death. That is nonsense. It's drivel. But I am, I, I — I think it's worth it. I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational. Nobody talks like this. They live in a complete alternate universe. So then, how do you reduce? Very simple. People say, oh, Charlie, how do you stop school shootings? I don't know. How did we stop shootings at baseball games? Because we have armed guards outside of baseball games. That's why. How did we stop all the shootings at airports? We have armed guards outside of airports. How do we stop all the shootings at banks? We have armed guards outside of banks. How did we stop all the shootings at gun shows? Notice there's not a lot of mass shootings at gun shows, there's all these guns. Because everyone's armed. If our money and our sporting events and our airplanes have armed guards, why don't our children? -

I understand and agree to a point, but in light of the massive amount of school shootings and others and the comparison to every other country, we have a problem that isn't getting addressed. IOW, Houston we have a problem. -

https://www.newsweek.com/charlie-kirk-says-gun-deaths-worth-it-2nd-amendment-1793113 I've watched him debate, not at a college. Heard this one above just today on FB. So wasn't searching for it. He was controversial, but still no one should be killed over their political views. -

I have been seeing his quotes, it's disappointing to say the least. I'm saddened that so many in my community and my life support the things he's said. But ultra saddened because this will further the divide in our country. All around these killings are not a good statement for our country and it's citizens. -

I am heartsick as well with the shootings you mentioned and this. When I watched the news coverage and saw the area that the event with Charlie occurred it appeared that he was like a dead duck to begin with. The surrounding balcony seating and no security with people just walking there and not checked such as backpacks etc. I was interested in watching the event at a later time if it was video'd, yesterday and thought it would be inside. This should have taken place in an enclosed secure arena, especially with all the politically motivated shootings beforehand. I wish the school had been better prepared but hate to place blame because this will have a dark shadow over it for a long time. And those students that had to witness it is devastating. I don't agree with Charlie on many things, but did like that he'd want the opposite view on things. And that he's a father, husband etc. And it was sad to see him carried to a regular vehicle and not be in an ambulance where they maybe could have done more to save his life. But understand the mindset his security team were in. I hope your grandson and his friends will be okay after this, along with your sister and husband. This affected me so much, and glad it did because I don't want to become desensitized. But do worry for those that will not be the same again. I'm P'O'd too! -

I am so impressed with the women leaders throughout history in the church, and remember them from long ago and hopefully women don't lose their position even more, as they did when the PH took charge of the RS organization. I hope for it to be returned, if that's even possible with the generation gap of young women or women not really knowing what women held at one time. -
Here's the guy that sings to animals. Makes me want to be vegan and also, it's spiritual to watch. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DOT3wzdiAkn/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Thanks for your input, I always like what you say. The story of John Gustav-Wrathall sounds an awful lot like the brother of D. Todd Christofferson, which is Tom. I thought I heard he began dating again. I think Tom is still active and holds callings, not sure.

Spiritual Experiences as Valid Means to Determine Truth
Tacenda replied to stelf's topic in General Discussions
I gave up years ago of hoping for a direct feeling that God is with me or listening. I believe it may happen, but I know I'm one of millions. Maybe an angel or someone gone before might be there more often since they have a much smaller realm than God does. I just know there's something much bigger than me and that gives me a lot of hope. Wish I had more than that, but to me it's enough or better than not believing in anything out there. But one only needs to see the world and it's beauty and the living species and creatures to know there's more. I've been listening to a great Insta or tik tok where a guy plays the guitar and sings solely for animals and they will go right up to him and enjoy and love it so much. It's enough for me, to have a reality where time is but a moment in eternity. I hope you get some answers that help, stelf! PS: I do speak to HF when I need to in my mind and out loud. So I must believe the Divine or God is listening after all. -
I recently heard about this while listening to a podcast with Greg Prince. I've yet to begin listening, but I guess it was geared toward people like myself, so I guess I'll give it a shot. Anyone else listen? Or have you heard about it? It feels very contradictory when you see the guests. On one side the ex'd or ex LDS and the other side those that defend the faith but at the same time acknowledge the issues and still keep the faith. I think this will help people, it sure would have helped me several years ago, my how the time sped up so fast. Feels like yesterday, still holding it all in for the most part except on this board, thanks to all of you who've put up with me.

Very good point. Such as the plural wives of the prophets. Have we had lessons on Emma? No need to answer, a question for anyone that knows. Or I could Google. -

It's really sad, IMO. That RS changed to being taught the same things the men were learning during RS/PH time. We had had culture lessons along with so many other types of lessons geared toward women and then change change change, were relegated to have these books to study the presidents of the church each year. Too bad we didn't do that with the RS presidents. Oh well, such is life in the male dominated churches everywhere.
