Popular Post Kenngo1969 Posted October 5, 2024 Popular Post Posted October 5, 2024 (edited) 194th Semiannual General Conference Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Saturday Morning Session Elder Neil L. Anderson of the Twelve “Pure revelation for the questions in your heart will make this conference unforgettable.” Faith, hope, and charity are linked in the Scriptures We have sacred, eternal hopes centered in Jesus Christ Our hope of eternal life is centered in Jesus Christ “Our victories come through Jesus Christ as we triumph over sin, struggles, and trials” “In the world, ye shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world” We quietly pray, “Not my will, but thine be done” The Lord will send peace in His chosen time “Abide in hope, rejoicing in hope …” –Paul “I am alone. I have not whither to go …” –Moroni “If a man have faith, he must needs have hope …” –Moroni Faith is “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” “As we enter the Lord’s house, we feel the Spirit of God verify our hope.” Every righteous person will receive every righteous blessing There is hope for our posterity in God’s promises, whatever their current circumstances The Temple is “a House of Light, a House of Hope” Do we “block the light of the Son”? He spoke of blessing a grandson who survived open heart surgery as a newborn: “Although his physical activities were limited, his faith expanded” “The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives, and everything to do with the focus of our lives.” –Russell M. Nelson Trey couldn’t go on a mission until one year after his heart transplant: He never regained consciousness after complications during surgery. Notwithstanding her loss, his mother woke up with “a feeling of absolute joy”; “The Lord does not leave us comfortless. I look forward to a joyful reunion” Our afflictions shall be “but a small moment, and shall be consecrated to our gain” As you trust in the Lord, His peace will come We must “press forward, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men” Edited October 5, 2024 by Kenngo1969 6
Kenngo1969 Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 Sister Emily Belle Freeman, Young Women General President She took the sacrament in the hospital while her husband was there for cancer surgery: “In the midst of heartache and uncertainty” she was able to draw upon God’s power through the Sacrament (the Savior’s enabling strength) Priesthood ordinances and covenants allow God to sanctify us, then to work wonders in our lives The Priesthood, however, is required We don’t just make covenant promises, we must keep them Priesthood ordinances, combined with keeping covenant promises, enable us to have access to God’s power President Nelson invited Sisters to study Doctrine and Covenants 25: President Freeman’s acceptance of that invitation changed her life Did Emma wonder about her place in the Plan? The Lord reminded Emma of her place in His Plan, including who she was, and whose she was The Lord gave Emma purpose: She was an essential participant in the work The Lord outlined a process of inward sanctification that would prepare Emma for exaltation Emma would proceed from daughter, to Elect Lady, to Queen “Through the ordinances of the Melchizedek Priesthood, the power of Godliness would be manifest in Emma’s life” “Accessing God’s power requires us to do the same things He instructed Emma to do” Does your faith in the Priesthood grow as you grow in understanding The most humble of women has a chance to become an Elect Lady, a Queen: She must live up to her privileges. In doing so, God’s power will flow into your life with greater efficacy Who officiates in the ordinance is not what matters most “In the ordinances, the power of God is manifest” 4

Kenngo1969 Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 Elder Karl D. Hirst of the Seventy “I most relate to the love Heavenly Father feels for me in the love I feel for my children” He tells his children: “I’m not going to tell you which one is my favorite” Nephi: “I glory in My Jesus” God provides love until we are filled Each one of us is His Favorite When we love each other as completely as we can, Heaven gets involved, too What circumstances cause you to feel God’s love? Any voice that distances you from God’s love is wrong Jesus’s brokennness makes us whole Whatever you have done, you are wrong to believe that it has placed you beyond the reach of God’s love Just because we don’t feel God’s love doesn’t mean that His love has gone away Symbolism: Mountains are the evidence of God’s love Do we wrap ourselves in our covenants by mourning with those who mourn, comforting those who stand in need of comfort, etc. There’s a difference between being loved and feeling loved. Just because we don’t do the second doesn’t mean we don’t do the first. Can we step back until we see life, challenges, and so forth, from an eternal perspective? Have we written about the times when we have had Divine Connection? Have we invited others to tell us about the times when they have had Divine Connection? Do we wait for Him to come even when, already, He is there? When we share love, we, ourselves, are filled up: “Whoso shall lose himself, for my sake …” Joy is our purpose, not just the gift of our circumstances 3
Kenngo1969 Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Twelve Nitroglycerin was unstable until combined with a form of rock Without a stabilizer, Nitroglycerin was too hazardous; by itself, the rock was worthless The combination of the two is what is powerful The Gospel is perfect, but it requires a Church to administer it The Church administers baptism as a covenant and a witness that those baptized will take upon them the name of the Savior The Church is ordinary people—disciples of Jesus Christ—that helps the Lord accomplish His purposes The Church provides an authoritative structure that gives us access to His power and enables us to become what He wants us to become Without the power of God, the Church is not exceptional The gospel requires a divinely-authorized framework The Lord restored His Church to give us access to His Power Christ wants us to come unto Him so that He can justify us, and sanctify us His grandparents lived apart while his grandfather worked: His grandfather was contacted by the missionaries; his grandmother was upset and discarded the pamphlets he received, but retrieved them, read them, and was converted He was discriminated against by farmer who would not sell him milk, so he rode across the fjord every day to purchase milk from a more tolerant farmer The combination of nitroglycerin and stone make it valuable; the combination of the gospel and the church make it valuable Gospel power is more powerful than dynamite: It will shatter the rocks in your way 3
Kenngo1969 Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 Elder David Homer of the Seventy Wife of Addison Pratt, Louisa, traveled without her husband “I admire her willingness to set aside her personal preferences, to trust God, and to exercise faith” In all matters, God asks us to trust him As we seek to understand and to accept His will, we must understand that we cannot change the boundaries He has set Sherem, Nehor, Korihor: “Truth is relative, revelation is irrelevant, and whatever we wish to do is right” Mosiah 4:9 Moments when our own views are not in harmony with those of God are times when we need to Trust Him If we heed God’s word, we will receive more; if we do not, we will receive less and less, until we have none. (It is not what God gives us that is most important; it is what we do with what he gives us) “Look unto me in every thought. Doubt not, fear not” Doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith –Dieter F. Uchtdorf “Will ye also go away? … Thou hast the words of Eternal Life”; The apostles faced the same things those who walked away faced, but they made a different choice We, too, can say, “Lord, I believe. Help thou mine unbelief” Are we willing to submit as a child, in all things? The choice to submit our will to God’s is at the heart of our discipleship Woman returning to Church needed to keep going until she wanted to go, and to stay until she wanted to be there We may be of Good Cheer as we trust God more than anyone or anything else 3
Kenngo1969 Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 Elder Gregorio Casillas of the Seventy What does Heavenly Father want from you? Because we have been reserved for the Latter Days, it is crucial for us to learn the Lord’s will, and to do it He and a stake president visited a sister whom the stake president felt prompted to visit. The sister didn’t trust Elder Casillas but rejoiced when she saw the stake president Each of our spiritual abilities is unique, so we should avoid comparing ourselves to others Whatever else we do in the world, it is most important to prepare ourselves to be disciples of Jesus Christ “In coming days, we will see the greatest manifestations of God’s power that the world has ever seen.’ –Russell M. Nelson “Let us strive to be good Christians at all times” Only the Adversary tempts you to believe that change is not possible We can give another the hope needed to try once more (or, I might add, as many times as necessary!) Jesus Christ is your Savior, and He understands you personally 3

Kenngo1969 Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 President Dallin H. Oaks of the First Presidency Following Christ is not a casual or an occasional practice; it must become a way of life “All are alike unto God” The first step in following Christ is to obey the Two Great Commandments God’s commandments provide guiding and steadying force in our life The reason a kite is able to soar so high is because it is attached to a strong: The string connects us to the covenants and commandments of Christ, enabling us to soar to celestial heights “I have set an example for you … I am the Light which ye shall hold up” We covenant to “always remember Him, and keep His commandments” Fundamentals: Faith, Repentance, Baptism, Receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, Enduring to the End, Becoming as a Little Child Some commandments are temporary (e.g., moving the Saints from place to place), and some are permanent Sharp differences on public policy often result in hostility and hatred in personal relationships We must avoid contention (whatever the genesis, whether religious, political, personal, and so on); the Devil is the father of contention “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you” The best way to show love for God is to show love for our fellow beings “Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God” “One of the easiest ways to identify a true follower of Jesus Christ is how compassionately that person treats other people” –Russell M. Nelson “I urge you to be a Peacemaker, now and always” –Russell M. Nelson “All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them” We must love all, avoid contention, and be peacemakers in our interactions with others; this does not mean giving up what makes us distinctive, but we must cease using that as an excuse to contend with others” Are we willing to let God prevail in our lives? 3

The Nehor Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Elder Kearon is undermining the Prophet. He calls the Church “the Church of Joy”. It is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints you apostate heathen! 2

Kenngo1969 Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 (edited) Saturday Afternoon Session Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Twelve The miraculous mission of Alma and the Four Sons of Mosiah to the Lamanites “As many of the Lamanites who were converted never did fall away” They lay down their weapons of rebellion—not just weapons of war, but weapons of disobedience “It was all we could do to repent that God would take away our stain” God took away the sins, the desire to sin, and the stain of sin They buried their swords and their desire to sin Examples of active and passive rebellion: Lucifer rebelled actively; Sherem, Nehor, Korihor: “There is no sin, so there is no need for repentance” Latter-day rebellion: William W. Phelps; Joseph Smith: “Come on, Dear Brother, for the war is past. For friends at first are friends again at last” Passive rebellion, however, is more insidious. Do we pursue our own path, disregarding what God wants. Did we—and do we—“do it our way”? Christ “witnesseth unto the Father that he would be obedient to the Father in all things” Nephites fought, not for monarchy nor for power, but for freedom Does our speech edify, or does it defame? “The tongue can no man tame”; “Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be” Does devotion to career relegate other things, things that are equally or more important, to secondary status, such as spouse, children, etc.? That, too, is rebellion We are to glorify God in both body and Spirit: We do have a legitimate interest in caring for our bodies. It is a mark of rebellion to abuse our bodies, but vanity is its own form of rebellion Burying our weapons of rebellion means following the counsel in Mosiah 3:19, letting God prevail in our lives, etc. Will we bury the weapons of our rebellion, like the Lamanites, “never more to fall away”? We must bury the weapons of our rebellion and replace it with a willing heart and willing mind Edited October 6, 2024 by Kenngo1969 3
Kenngo1969 Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 Elder Jose Texeira of the Seventy Salt is made up of two elements bound together: To be the salt of the earth, we must be bound to the Lord “Ye are the salt of the earth” He described the process of harvesting salt from small ponds of sea water, “salt pans” Just as those who harvest the salt take great care to ensure the highest quality product, we, too, should take great care to see to it that we offer our best to the Lord Just as salt can lose its essence, we can lose our spiritual vitality: “If the salt hath lost its savor, wherewith shall the Earth be salted?” “God wants us to work together and to help each other. That is why we are in families, wards, and stakes … That is why he has asked us to be in the world but not of the world” We must be “anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of our own free will and choice to bring to pass much righteousness” Just as those who harvest salt use simple tools to harvest salt, we can do simple things to ensure that we are the salt of the earth Attend the Temple Be deliberate in our efforts to strengthen our families and others around us Serve in the church and in the community Use digital tools to engage in uplifting, edifying communication Just as salt has the ability to purify and preserve, we, too, have the ability to do the same for those around us 3
Kenngo1969 Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 Elder Juan Pablo Villar of the Seventy He spoke of being swept under by an undertow as a young person “You need to attack the wave”: He was so impressed by the and way his brother attacked the wave that he missed the next wave and he was swept under by another undertow When he acted in concert with his brother, and they attacked the next wave together, they were successful The Adversary’s attacks are like the waves that swept him under that day: “Don’t forget who has power over [the] waves—and, in fact, over all things” Christ is always ready to grasp us and to rescue us from the waves; we, too, can reach out to rescue others from the waves We can rely on the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Ghost to know what we may do to help others As long as Peter kept his eye on the Savior, he was successful in walking on the water: The Savior did not scold Peter, but reminded him from whence his most important source of help comes “My brother did not give up on me that day, but persisted until I overcame that challenge and succeeded”; Christ is there as many times as needed to provide help; we must be there for others as many times as necessary to provide help The prints of the nails in his hands will always remain to remind us of how far he reached down to help us We must turn to Christ He is our rescuer 3
Kenngo1969 Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 Elder Patrick Kearon of the Twelve “Welcome to the Church of Joy” Because of God’s Plan and Christ’s sacrifice, we should be the most joyful people on Earth Each of us has a place in the Lord’s Plan of Happiness “Joy comes from and because of Him. For Latter-day Saints, Jesus Christ is joy.” --Russell M. Nelson Do we find a spirit of collective rejoicing in Christ? Do we bring a spirit of collective rejoicing in Christ to the Sacrament? “Joyful reverence is, indeed, ‘a thing’” Reverence is more than, as we tell our children, being still We don’t simply attend sacrament meeting; we worship there “What is the man with the mean face doing up there?” Do we communicate welcome and joy in our countenances? “The song of the righteous is a prayer unto me.” The Sacrament is the whole purpose of our gathering Do we reflect on the Savior’s Sacrifice when we partake of the Sacrament? When we suffer, do we connect Christ’s suffering with ours? When we rejoice, to we connect our rejoicing with Christ’s rejoicing? Do we experience dread remembering all the times we messed up, or do we remember all of the times Christ has helped us overcome sin, adversity, and so on? Do we focus on the tomb, or on Christ’s victory over the tomb? Do we experience awesome wonder at God’s gift of His Son? Do we plan and expect to have a joyful experience at church? Do we reach out to welcome, care for, nourish, and love God’s children? Do you “rejoice in Christ”? “Now, have we not reason to rejoice? … If this is boasting, even so will I boast.” –Ammon 3
Kenngo1969 Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 Elder David Buckner of the Seventy Christ is The Great Unifier When the Saints supplicated the Lord for help, He called them, “My Friends” Friends are not measured by likes, comments, etc. Christ never said, “Ye are just my friends” “Ye are they whom the Father hath given me; ye are my friends” Christ’s watchcare is exalting, ennobling, eternal Christ called a diverse group as His Apostles; “They looked to Him” He described an interfaith group who met virtually to discuss the challenges of COVID-19. It was what united them that was far more important than their differences. “We weren’t looking across the table at one another. Each of us was looking heavenward together” “Be One, and if ye are not One, ye are not Mine” He told his students, “If I did what you do and you did what I do, we wouldn’t need each other. But we do need one another because I don’t do what you do, and you don’t do what I do, we do need each other” “Visitors Welcome” is not just a sign: We must act so that they feel welcome “Sitting in a pew on Sunday does not make you a good Christian any more than sleeping in a garage makes you a car”: Christian is as Christian does “The gospel net is the largest net in the world” –Russell M. Nelson “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest” “Being one with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit is the ultimate in belonging.” --D. Todd Christofferson 2
Kenngo1969 Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 Elder D. Martin Goury of the Seventy He asked his mom to wash his best outfit so that he would be ready for the Savior’s coming the next day We must wash our garments in the blood of the Savior Heavenly Father has provided a Savior, who, as we repent, made a redeeming sacrifice for us We must experience the joy of daily repentance We must experienced the daily joy of putting off the natural man If you believe that you have strayed too far to return to the covenant path, that is not true As we repent, the Savior sanctifies us His wife must clean her hearing aids regularly in order to be able to hear; so, too, we must engage in the regular practices that will enable us to discern the Spirit “The comforter, whom the father will send in my name, shall teach you all things, and shall bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you” Do we turn to the world for guidance, rather than to God? “In a coming day, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the constant ministrations of the Holy Ghost” –Russell M. Nelson He accompanied a Stake President who followed a prompting to visit a sister, where a greatly-needed priesthood blessing was administered 2
Kenngo1969 Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 Elder Aroldo Calvacante of the Seventy Just as the wind helped the Jaredites cross the ocean, so, too, can we help each other along our journey through life Whether we are well known or forgotten, trials will come to each of us; as we turn to the Savior, He will help us overcome our trials “I affirm strongly that the Lord has asked every young man to prepare and serve a mission.” --Russell M. Nelson “O my Lord … I am slow of speech” “I will teach thee what thou shalt say” You have a perfect Heavenly Father who knows you personally, and a Savior who loves you. Christ teaches us that no one is ever forgotten by Him 1
Kenngo1969 Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 Elder Ulisses Soares of the Twelve Parable of the Pearl of Great Price We must do everything we can on our mortal journey to receive the Lord’s choices blessings We must “do always those things that please the Lord” We must submit our will to His “For I came down from Heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of Him that sent me” “I do always those things that please Him” “For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent” Are we “lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God”? Do we seek our own, or Christ’s? “We have Abraham to our father”; “If ye were children of Abraham, ye would do the works of Abraham” While genetics, geography, and other personal circumstances may affect us, still, we can choose to walk His Path The measure of our discipleship is to what degree we are willing to surrender our own will to the will of God 1
Kenngo1969 Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 Saturday Evening Session Elder Gerrit W. Gong, of the Twelve Dad joke competition between Elder Gong and “AI” Elder Gong Ours is a gospel of joy, and of holiness in everyday life To walk with the Lord, we must become holy, and to become holy, the Lord invites us to walk with Him – Ken sez: “A good paradox!” Religious believers generally are happier, healthier, and more fulfilled; they have more meaning and purpose; they have greater physical and mental health and greater life satisfaction at all ages “Holiness to the Lord” says “No” to the profane “Holiness to the Lord” says “Yes” to holiness and reverence “I felt like I was being given this big hug when I read Alma 36:12” Tithing is not about money, but about following the commandments “My testimony grew because I was tested in my beliefs” Young man who wanted to serve a mission felt guilty that his father, who was against him serving, died, but then saw him, contented, in a dream “I learned to pray not for what I wanted, but for what the Lord wants” Sister who suffered heartbreak of infidelity asked “What’s the point?” The answer? “Your covenants are with me” Spending time together in the temple healed a rift between a father and a daughter Elder Gong’s mother “loved all of life’s flavors” As the only member of the Church of Jesus Christ in her family, His mother blessed his family “Holiness to the Lord” includes coming more often to the Lord in His House “Holiness to the Lord. The House of the Lord” – It draws us closer to one another and prepares us to live with the Father and with His son 2
Kenngo1969 Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 Sister Kristin M. Yee, Relief Society General Presidency She received Divine help to paint the Savior She inadvertently dissolved part of the painting with varnish meant to protect it God was not done with the painting, and He wasn’t done with her The experience taught her about God’s love, and how we become more with Him than we can become on our own “I will forever be grateful to my Savior that I can repent, change, and be cleansed” “Her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much” “We receive an ongoing remission of our sins as we repent and receive the sanctifying power of the Holy Ghost” “Christ is mighty to save” Christ made immortality possible for all, and eternal life possible for those who love and obey Him We cannot fathom the depths of Christ’s divine mercy, forgiveness, and love The Savior descended below all things so that He can lift us up into His Marvelous Light We must exercise faith, have a broken heart and a contrite spirit, repent Christ intends a deeper, covenant relationship for all of His sons and daughters “Repentance is the pathway to purity, and purity brings power. Oh, how we will need his power in the days to come.” –Russell M. Nelson “Whosoever will come, him will I receive. And blessed are they who come unto me.” “Surely, the Lord smiles upon one who wishes to come to judgment worthily.” –D. Todd Christofferson “Through Christ’s sacrifice, the bands of sin and death were forever broken.” 3
