In one of the sacrament meeting talks today, our former RS president described how she had returned to England as a teen after her family had lived in Australia for several years. Her mother wanted to place in her the mother's old girl's high school (called "Grammar School" here). The school was a "selective school," meaning one had to take and pass and entrance exam to get in. She managed to pass the exam, but found school life there unbearable. She started a month after the school year had started, knew nobody, and nobody befriended her. She had what both students and teachers considered a "funny accent" (Australian), and she was treated as if she were an outsider, subject to cruel jokes, hazing of one sort or another, and in short, her attendance was a nightmare. In her talk, she emphasized that while she attended the school, she did not belong

I know that that's a bit the mentality in England. If you're differend in any way you don't belong to the group and you don't fit in. Here in the Netherlands there's the same kind of mentality unfortunatly. I've lived the biggest time of my life in NL so i've suffered a lot from lonelyness on all the schools I went too.

Her assigned topic was the importance of love in member missionary work, but she was speaking generally of the need for all of us to show consideration and concern for everyone we come into contact with, regardless of their likelihood of joining the church. In short, we need to treat everyone as if they belong, because we are all children of the same Heavenly Father. She reminded us of the scripture that says "Charity never faileth," and though it is the Relief Society motto, it is applicable to everyone.

That's so beautifull. Gives me tears. And you're right. We all are brothers ans sisters of each other. Because we all share the same heavenly father.

I'm in the Church right now and today it's all about being together. Together we're strong. Together we can do more then when we are lonely alone.

All the more so when

1) being part of the community is voluntary and volitional,

2) the community coheres around precepts and ideals more than around individuals and personalities, and

3) those precepts and ideals are, per AoF 1:13, "virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy."

I am grateful that the Church and its members are striving to be this sort of community.

When we are together we come further. We can help each other. We can help one who has a problem. If one can't do something another will help and takes over that task. And allong with each other we move on in the right direction. Not alone. But with each other.

Well said.

A party isn't fun when you're alone. A party gets fun when we are together and help each others needs and having a good time.

That's the power of being together. Thoughts?

However...God bless you all and i hope you all will have an amazing church service today. Amen. 🙏

And to you.

Thanks,

-Smac

Me too. Makes me proud of our church.

because we are all children of the same Heavenly Father.

We had the missionaries over for dinner last night and they left us with the invitation to see those around as God sees them, remembering we are all children of God.

I love that this is the focus of their missionary work at this time, what a wonderful, meaningful (and workable for me) invitation to leave with us.  It is nice to end the occasion with this uplift rather than something I feel burden with because it’s not something that could work for me (handing out Book of Mormons to friends never worked out for me).

My little tidbit, yesterday was my husband's side of a family reunion. His family are all very stalwart LDS and I get a little nervous when my family show up. I love my children but all are now inactive and a few have tattoos and all were wearing clothing that were not revealing but not a temple garment suitable. All the time I'm being the worst inside my mind hoping my children don't say anything that would offend the in-laws. I should have given both my in-laws and my children the benefit of the doubt or more respect than thinking they'll behave badly, because my in-laws couldn't have been nicer, genuinely. One of the grandchildren who's an adult and had served on a Spanish speaking mission came up to my hispanic son-in-law and fist bumped and did a certain handshake guys do, they've spoken a lot on other occasions. This made my heart happy. And no one seemed to judge my family, and I shouldn't have worried. Plus my children have matured a lot, they didn't like reunions much before, but seemed to really enjoy it this time.

Actually we are all connected with each other. We know this (you and me and the rest of the church). Unfortunatly there are also a bunch of people who don't know this.🎭😭

Really? Where your friends not just a little curious to read this book? That's to bad i find. But you know what Calm...some people are just not ready for the gospel yet. They need time don't you think.

Oh my. That sounds so wonderfull. I loved to read your storie. It's good to have such a nice family you know. So....i just had a little tear by reading you storie about your fun family reunion. I'm glad you had fun.

I will never experience those kind of happy family matters anymore. I broke up with all my family (even my parents).

Thank you Dario, I'm hoping you'll get that family one day. Whether you marry or you meet friends that are like family.
