Amulek Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Per the Church News: Quote The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released the location and name change for a temple to be built in the North Dallas, Texas area. This temple was first announced on October 2, 2022, by Church President Russell M. Nelson as the Prosper Texas Temple. The name has been changed to the McKinney Texas Temple. [emphasis added] I have family in McKinney and they were really stoked about hearing this the other day. Will be interesting to see where they draw the temple district lines between this and the Dallas temple. 4

Some of them are newish, but you can always message me their info and I can ask. Also, be sure to point out to them that the McKinney temple is technically in the City of Fairview. I've started calling it the McKinney Temple at Fairview, and that seems to drive the true McKinney-ites nuts. 2
The Nehor Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 I am here. I don’t see the need for this many temples but cool, I guess.

One of my cousins and her husband did a worldwide temple tour a long time ago, and they did endowments in all them they could get to. It was in fact still possible in a reasonable amount of time. Not now. There are currently 182 operating temples. My cousin and her husband tried to do this again recently, but no way could they get to them all. So they just restricted themselves to those in English-speaking countries. It was still a chore. 1

It might seem that putting multiple temples fairly close to one another is overkill, I guess. For example, you trip over temples everywhere you go in Utah. On the other hand Mongolia needs a temple because members there have to travel really long distances to get to one. In the last General Conference, President Nelson announced a full list of new temples, including one for Vancouver, Washington. Downtown Vancouver is a mere 15 miles (as the crow flies) from the Portland Oregon Temple. But I've been to the Portland temple, and it is rather busy. So, to me at least, a temple in Vancouver would relieve some of the crowding in Portland. That's what it ultimately depends upon, of course. If a temple isn't being strongly utilized, then it makes no sense to add one to the same general area. But there are areas where the existing temple district is so large that members further away can only make the trip occasionally. A temple closer to their homes may mean that more people would be able to serve more often.
