Adam and the Neanderthals Fun

I have been watching a series lately about the rather mysterious extinction of Neanderthals, and rise rise of modern humans.  Interesting stuff.

I wonder if the story of Adam found in Genesis could be connected to stories passed down in the collective memories of who became "The Jews" differentiating between the "children of God" and the "sons of men".

We still carry- many of us do- the genes of Neanderthals, which might be recalled in the story as the sons and daughters of the children and the sons of men mixing.

I know.  Parallels.  Metanarratives.

Bad! 😏

But fun!

All legends start somewhere.

Also all this happened about 60000 years ago.

So if every every day to God is 1000 years, we're just off by a factor of 10.  😉

People have been saying this. Pre-Adamite Theory. The theories vary, and some are racist. Whites are Neanderthals or half-demons, I think in... Nation of Islam... One of these black anti-white religions teach that. Interesting stuff. Even as a while person, I'm more intrigued by it than offended.

Offended by racists?  I think pity would be more appropriate.

The preponderance of Neanderthal evidence is found in northern and western Europe.  

They tended to have large and thick bodies, and there is some evidence that type 2 diabetes is probably a reaction to Neanderthal genes because they evolved to keep fat on their bodies and live through cold winters mostly in caves.  No McDonalds full of sugar and salt, and they were not equipped for our modern fast food diets.

If you look up reconstructions, they nearly all appears as barrel-chested "white",  perhaps "homeless" folks, "tanned" by living outside.

I have not seen views like those you mention, thanks.

I’ve heard this hypothesis before. It’s interesting to think about. I definitely don’t think they could have been referring to Neanderthals when they talk about “giants”-if that is even the correct interpretation.  Neanderthal people were shorter than us on average although very, very stocky.  Our ancient hunter/gatherer Pleistocene ancestors had far more in common with Neanderthals than they do with modern people. Even though we are the same species, culturally the Neanderthals were really not that different from them.  If the Jews are the children of God, then perhaps the Homo sapiens of hunter gatherer times were the children of men. Maybe even everyone who wasn’t of their faith.

I can see it that way as well, when I am in a more literal mood.

It could have been either or both ways, it doesn't matter to me, the bottom line is the BELIEF that God is man, and mankind can become as God is.

That is the HOPE for things UNSEEN and to me, the best possible paradigm to elevate us to the desire to actually become the best each of us can be.

Yeah, the real question is who invented metanarratives.😟

Between Genesis and those folks, we have Joseph's notion of the dialectical reasoning of " proving contraries"

And Marx has dialectic materialism.

And we do too. We are materialists who try to prove contraries. 

And Angela Davis, my prof from ages past.

Wow.  No wonder I am weird. 

LDS folks are dialectical materialists. Dang. 😳
