I don't find it funny at all. Not all Saints enjoy the levels of comfort and affluence that appear to be the seedbed of your thought bubble.

Again, you are speaking from a position of great privilege. I can walk into a chapel that has electricity, running water, heating and cooling, free wi-fi, etc. We can afford to send our young people on missions knowing that the experience will be heavily subsidised. We have scriptures and other Church materials. We have a temple we can worship in and an accommodation building near the temple that we can stay in, with a room tariff that is about 15 per cent of what we would need to pay for a comparable hotel room -- all provided by tithing. (And for members who struggle to afford the travel costs to the temple, the stake provides free travel for 20 people about ten times per year -- again, from tithing.)

The issues you are raising are ones that in 20 years in my stake, I have never once heard a member here raise.

Not only that but we have the Bishops Storehouse in every stake. I don't know about your stake but we gave thousands in food away every. week

I think I remember the number of like $40,000 per month. It'd be interesting to know the numbers on that for each stake.

I think you two are misunderstanding what I am saying.  My argument is not that tithing funds don't support anything.  My point is that giant mega-fund comes from our tithing, along with the other relatively modest measures you guys mention.  The church could provide the same services with the profits and interests of invested tithings for quite a long time.  So, it feels to me like all tithing donated is just adding to or supporting that pile.   That seems to carry less motivational weight to me, when compared against using tithing funds from now forward to be directly involved in building service oriented experiences and community charity opportunities for the membership in very purposeful and meaningful ways.

I don't need motivational reasons to pay my tithes regarding how it's spent. I pay my tithes because I'm motivated by God to do so,  what they do with it is their business.

Same. If anything, the existence of some kind of 'giant mega-fund' has actually increased my motivation!

Though I prefer to think of it as a 'war chest' ...
