What do you do with them after you have caught them?

This one went to a snake park, since it's such a beauty, others I just let go far enough away that they won't bother people

You would know ...  They're your friends! <_<

;) :D :friends:

He releases them, until they come back into his yard! :shok:   (I would've guessed that he feeds them to his pet mongoose or honey badger, but he says he doesn't have either one of those! :D

@gav, do you have a supply of antivenin on hand?  (I watched something on Youtube where a guy got bitten by a cobra, and he said to himself, "I think I'll just sit here for awhile and see if I've been envenomated ..."  I think he "thinned the herd" by one ...)

I don't keep antivenom, would likely just as easily kill me since I have had too many envenomations already, spiders, scorpions, snakes etc. After time you can develop an allergy and then antivenom can cause a deadly allergic reaction that can kill you quicker than the bite. Last serious bite I had in my teens I was already showing allergic tendencies. That is why I don't keep the venomous ones around long. Not keen to be bitten anymore. More pain than anybody needs to experience.... EVER.

Mate, you're either brave or insane, and I can't decide which! :D :D

Kinda. Bravery is mostly missing. Insanity is present.

When you have specialist knowledge no bravery is required you are just operating within known parameters and as long as you stick within the boundaries of those parameters things are pretty much safe. ~Think of a skydiver...

It takes a level of insanity to get to that point if specialist knowledge. ~ once again, think of a skydiver...

I'm our stake's history specialist. And my ward's de facto history specialist.

When it comes to the annual history, the historical department wants us to get releases signed by those who submit media for inclusion in the annual history. Part of the release text I found amusing. Here is part of the text, with the amusing part bolded:

"To the full extent permitted by law, I hereby waive, forever and throughout the universe, any and all so-called “moral rights” now or hereafter recognized with respect to the Photographs and to each and every part thereof for any and all now known or hereafter existing uses, media, and/or forms. In this regard, I acknowledge and agree that I will not receive a credit on or in connection with COP’s use of the Photographs."

I found the bolded part charming! Especially the part about "throughout the universe." As an amateur cosmologist I am tickled pink by this. So the release applies even on the fourth planet of any given sun located in the Andromeda galaxy.

"COP" by the way means "Corporation of the President".

Sounds like a plan! 😉

@gav I know why they use horses to produce antibodies to snake venom and to produce antivenom: horses have a much larger blood supply than humans, and (probably, but I'm guessing here), horses are the largest creatures who have the closest blood compatibility (relatively speaking) to humans.  However, since you've been bitten so many times, and, therefore, have produced antibodies to the venom of so many creatures, theoretically, could your blood be extracted to produce antivenom for the various creatures that have bitten you? ;)  (Probably not: It's probably not possible to produce it in quantities sufficient to be useful, but hey, at least I'm thinking that something good might come out of all of the pain and anguish you've been through! :shok: )

For that to work you need to keep up the envenomations. My last bites were 30 years ago so it would be pretty useless now. There are some who play this game...

Okay.  If I needed to know where the line between bravery and insanity is, you have shown me ... conclusively.  You win: You're brave; that's insane! :shok:(Whatever else I can say about what you do, at least you don't set out to be bitten by the #!#$!! things purposefully!  Circa 1:40: And I see that Uli Brandt-Bohne agrees with me!  Circa 2:30: The Scientist Dude (I can't see/remember his name) says that repeated exposure to venom can cause one to develop an allergy, which, per your previous post, is what has happened to you.

May the principle of Mark 16:18 ever operate to protect you!

Yup, I've never set out to be bitten, but if you handle them it's bound to happen (wild animal instincts) and if you keep them it's even more likely to get bitten. The vast majority of serious envenomations I had was from critters I kept. Hence now I don't keep any venomous ones and handle them only to remove them where they are posing a danger to others. Keeps my chances of another bite very low, although I nearly got nicked by one like the one in my profile pic last summer while removing it from where it didn't belong. It was playing hard to get!

You couldn't convince it that you're its friend?!  :D  :D  Here, let me help a Brother out: "Hello, my Slithering, Squirming, Shy Acquaintance.  This is my (brave and slightly insane) friend, gav.  He would like to be your friend, too!"

And something tells me that even if they could hear us and understand us, somehow, still, they would be impossible to reason with! :o

Some species tame up quite well, others never tame. Most will lose their taming up over time, but when surprised or in feeding mode they will nearly always react as the wild animals they are. Some species and even individuals in that species definitely demonstrate more intelligence, inquisitiveness and even dare I say personality.

@gav

And this just in, from the "Life Imitates Art" department (the "art" in question being the cinematic masterpiece Snakes on a Plane😞

https://www.npr.org/2023/04/05/1168206000/snake-on-a-plane-cobra-cockpit-south-africa

I note with interest that, apparently, the wily fellow escaped notice both when he entered and when he exited the plane.  (No word on whether the pilot channeled his inner Samuel L. Jackson: "I am so [bleeping] tired of this [bleeping bleeping] snake on this [bleeping bleeping] plane!" ;):D )
