Not only did He drink it, but He made a whole bunch (about 150 gallons) of some excellent wine. I'd love to have been at that wedding party. I imagine there were some God-given hangovers afterwards

Though I I'm pretty sure I know why some changes occurred, I don't have a reason for that specific one. I'm sure there's an explanation of some form. Another consideration: "key word" refers to "crucial teaching," "essential principle" or "concept of great significance" more than it does a deciphering element, password or incantation. Even the temple language and covenants are appendages to "The Word": "The fundamental principles of our religion are the testimony of the Apostles and Prophets, concerning Jesus Christ, that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended into heaven; and all other things which pertain to our religion are only appendages to it."

Agreed, without those fundamentals no man can be saved from anything. However it is also agreeable to say that no matter how much faith one possesses or excersizes, a man will never be saved in ignorance of the ordinances of the gospel and the knowledge transferred to him through them. 1

This is why baptism for the dead is so key: baptism is the ordinance that was instituted from before the foundation of the world which all who leave the first estate must receive. Those who are fortunate enough to receive it in the flesh must provide it for those who can only receive it vicariously in the spirit. This aligns with the redemption of Christ, which also "was laid from the foundation of the world," "from the foundation of the world, through Christ," whom the Father "prepared from the foundation of the world." Any other ordinance proceeds from that; it is the ordinance through which God's children take upon themselves the name of Jesus Christ.

He did drink and no-one on this board should deny that fact. So, because someone took some unintelligible or incoherent or difficult-to-decipher notes of what Joseph Smith said when he delivered a sermon ... this proves that Joseph Smith was drunk when he delivered the sermon? Okay. P.S.: There's as much evidence for that proposition or hypothesis as there is for the proposition that the fact that I inadvertently repeated a word in my first draft of this post proves that I was drunk when I wrote it. Kennngo, I didn't read the OP as well as I should have. I thought these were Joseph's words that he had written, not the notes of someone listening to him. My bad.
