SamuelTheLamanite Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 (edited) I am very worried about secular attacks on religion, pornography, immorality, and the philosophies of men. We need to listen to the prophets of God. The prophets give us warnings, instruction, and counsel from the Lord for our day. Ezra Taft Benson taught, “If you are married, avoid being alone with members of the opposite sex whenever possible. Many of the tragedies of immorality begin when a man and woman are alone in the office or at church or driving in a car. At first there may be no intent or even thought of sin. But the circumstances provide a fertile seedbed for temptation." Gordon B. Hinckley taught “You women who are single, and some of you who are married, who are out in the workplace, may I give you a word of caution. You work alongside men. More and more, there are invitations to go to lunch, ostensibly to talk about business. You travel together. You stay in the same hotel. You work together. “Perhaps you cannot avoid some of this, but you can avoid getting into compromising situations. Do your job, but keep your distance. Don’t become a factor in the breakup of another woman’s home. You are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You know what is expected of you. Stay away from that which is tempting. Avoid evil—its very appearance”= The White Bible teaches "You and your companion should not visit or accept rides from individuals of the opposite sex unless another responsible adult of your own sex is also present. Always obey this rule, even if the situation seems harmless" I feel with the rise of secularism and pornography our world is going to become more wicked. There is no doubt we are witnessing the last days. D&C 3:4 teaches Those who follow after their own will and carnal desires must fall Edited March 14, 2018 by SamuelTheLamanite 3

Popular Post cacheman Posted March 14, 2018 Popular Post Posted March 14, 2018 I've got a rule that's worked well for me over the years. The rule is to always remain faithful to my wife. This rule has worked very well for me without impacting the working environment of myself and my colleagues. I like this rule because it's simple, and since I'm devoted to my wife, it's easy to follow. The rule has been 100% effective for decades in closed door meetings, work trips, hotels, restaurants, and even car rides. I would recommend this rule to anyone! 9

Perhaps you shouldn't start your critique in this way, I just don't see it leading to a useful conversation. Edited March 14, 2018 by hope_for_things 1

There is no doubt we are witnessing the last days. D&C 3:4 teaches Those who follow after their own will and carnal desires must fall It's good to remember that sometimes the advice of Church leaders is based on their perceptions of the world that have been formed from counseling with members who have sinned. While this may give them a good perspective on some things, I think it can also give them biased data that leads them to overestimate certain things and draw false correlations. After talking with a lot of guys who had sex with their secretaries, it probably looks like every secretary is a danger to stalwart Priesthood holders everywhere, when there are in fact thousands of LDS businessmen who are able to interact normally with the women in their offices and not cheat on their wives. I think this happened with President Kimball and his views on the causes of homosexuality, and it may have happened here. Certainly, I would never have a social lunch with a woman from my office, nor would I ever invite a woman to my hotel room, but too much caution can also work to severely limit a woman's opportunities in the workplace as she misses out on important opportunities out of a fear of introducing "temptation." stemelbow Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 (edited) I wonder if this rule was applied by Joseph if a new revelation would have ever come out in Nauvoo. After considering the stories of Abraham, David and Solomon in the Bible Joseph didn't let his mind go off on restoring polygamy. If not, perhaps no angel would have come around threatening him with a flaming sword. If not, perhaps our grand religion would be grander, we'd have far more Mormons in the world, and we wouldn't have seen the creation of whats-his-name Jeffs. This one rule could have thwarted it all. Dang! we walked right into that, didn't we? Should have stuck to the rule of never being alone with another human of the opposite sex. Edited March 14, 2018 by stemelbow

stemelbow Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 How far shall we take this rule? If you are gay, to any level on the Kinsey scale, don't be alone with anyone of the same sex too? What if you're bi-sexual? Don't be alone with anyone ever, unless you are married to that one. I don't know. I just don't see how this rule works very well, in the real world. But again, if it was a rule for Joseph we likely wouldn't have to be dealing with the effects of polygamy, which is a good thing. Maybe that alone gives good reason for the rule.
