When I heard him say it I took it more as just some wise council from the prophet. I forgot to use the sarcasm emoticon. Edited January 2, 2017 by Thinking

If the argument is about treating the body as a temple, perhaps the temple chandeliers should go too... Surely being 100lbs overweight is more disrespectful to the body than a few metal bars in the ear. Whatever. I was trying to be facetious. By the way, who told you how much I weigh? 1

Before the "official announcement" my wife had 2 earrings in her right ear and one in her left. It was sexy. After the proclamation by GBH she immediately took the extra one from the right ear out. I begged her to reconsider, but she wouldn't. My wife got her third ear-hole after the "official announcement", and she uses all three, even on Sundays. As she is a very faithful member of the Church, I am still trying to figure that one out, but oh well. I think that since she was already past the limit, she may have thought that one more wouldn't hurt. I think she's making three her limit, however.

Unless there is some physical damage that occurs due to multiple piercings...though there is no sign iirc that this belief contributed to the one earring rule and I am not saying it did, just talking about why it might be better outside of obedience to not engage in massive or large piercings...beside risks of infections and ugly scarring (my sister had a massive growth in one lobe from one piercing). I have had a number of cuts over the years that have resulted in damage to the nerves. Small cuts, little to no numbness that disappears over time. It appears the nerves can heal a little damage. There comes a level of damage that the body cannot restore though. I have scars that feel almost identical to the neuropathy in my feet...which I am told is caused by malfunctioning nerves and which I need to be careful of to avoid further damage. There is danger in messages of nerves being disrupted and not only unawareness of damage being done. Perhaps there is a physical health advantage to limiting cosmetic alterations of one's body (not all plastic surgery is for purely cosmetic purposes, of course). There are claims of crucial pathways of the body that are linked into the ear. Such if they exist could be altered by piercing. It may simply be folklore, but ear massages can be very relaxing and it can be hard to tell if pressure points are purely placebo...I have had some dramatic unexpected results with acupuncture that seems unlikely to be placebo (for one, moderate tinnitus I have had for 40 years every day stopping for a little over a day after acupuncture for something else entirely...and it was done in my legs, it was totally random as it never occurred to me to imagine it would happen). http://thehealthylivinglounge.com/2010/03/29/teach-yourself-8-of-the-best-ear-massages/

Hoping a little alteration can be done here and there too...I would like to grow a few inches as I am 5'6" and have the same size head as my husband, who is 6'2". My dad gave his kids way too big skulls. Surprise Mom didn't say never again with the first one. My younger brother looked like a bobble head doll till puberty. Shirt sleeves are always too short on me if I get the right size instead of something that floats on me. Same with many pants not meant to be worn with heels. Edited January 4, 2017 by Calm 1
