There were many years where I lived in apartments and such and I would just have to give them away because there was no place to put them. Yes. I do not have a green thumb at all. I look at plants and they die. kind of like sewing machines and lawn mowers..plants hate me. 1

I can't handle trying to keep anything else alive right now. 😊 1

I can't handle trying to keep anything else alive right now. 😊 You're doing good then! Just some advice... Which is good in your case ;), or be glad some plants didn't make it. Sometimes I'll plant things and regret it! They get way out of hand and grow every where. Or where I plant is wrong and they die, maybe because of my sprinkling system. But my regret is listening to my husband when he said we didn't need a landscaper or help from a nursery to know where to plant things or what variety works best in our climate. So if you can, or need to, I'd get some professional advice, or if you have a lot of area to landscape, get a map of what to plant in what area of your yard. I know the upfront costs are scary, but down the road, probably worth it. I've tore out enough plants to know, or had plants die on me. We live on a half acre, so that's a lot of land. Thank goodness our garden takes a huge hunk out of it. But my dream is to put in a Pickleball court or a court with several activities. But still keep most of the garden. Hope this helps, just know you're not alone. Oops, after reading this, I realize that you didn't kill your plants, just that you turned them down on Mother's Day. At first I thought I was on your thread that you started about plants. And when you said turned down...that you meant you turned them over in the dirt. Oh, heaven help me! 2

Garden Girl Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 BB and Tacenda... You could try "container gardening"... planters located in various parts of yard/patio that are much easier to handle/maintain... there are Sunset and Better Homes & Garden books published in full color on such gardening. They eliminate the need for an actual landscaper, and give information on how/where/type/how many containers. Any garden shop or gardening section of your supermarket will contain numerous publications to help you... these books give colorful examples, and detailed information... helping you save expense. Good luck... GG 2

I still think dandelions are pretty flowers. Jeanne... I have a small lawn area between the flower beds that I used to mow myself with a hand pushed mower... It took me about a half-hour to mow the lawn... good exercise for me... I haven't sewn anything in years, and then it was only simple things like kitchen curtains, etc. I bought a Simplicity pattern for a pair of lounging pants and I couldn't understand the pattern... it didn't make sense... so I just used my common sense and eyed what I thought was right... 23 minutes ago, bluebell said: You do not want me anywhere near your sewing machine. My hubby used to have certain things that he could cook better than me... and he could clean just as good as me any day... he was always ready to pitch in if needed, particularly after a busy day for me if I was tired. I always appreciated him so much... GG 2
jana at jade house Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 What about sewing machines? I might be able to help? 1

But figuring out the mechanics, forget about it. Jeanne, what do you like to sew? And dandelions are good for the bee population, so tell that to the dirty looks from neighbors! I could just never get into it...but hand me a recipe or a musical instrument and I would give it a try.
