What does the church say about dinosaurs?

I was wondering if the church or any church has talked about how dinosaur bones being millions of years old plays into the time frame of the earth if Adam and Eve were only about 7 thousand years ago. Were they in the Garden of Eden do you think or was life going on outside the Garden millions of years before Adam was created?

FYI, There are dinosaurs painted on the backwall of the Creation room in the Manti temple.

What does the Church believe about dinosaurs?

Did dinosaurs live and die on this earth long before man came along? There have been no revelations on this question, and the scientific evidence says yes. (You can learn more about it by studying paleontology if you like, even at Church-owned schools.)

The details of what happened on this planet before Adam and Eve aren’t a huge doctrinal concern of ours. The accounts of the Creation in the scriptures are not meant to provide a literal, scientific explanation of the specific processes, time periods, or events involved. What matters to us is that as part of His plan for us, God created the earth and then created Adam and Eve, who were our first parents and were instrumental in bringing about the Fall, which enabled us to be born on earth and participate in God’s plan. (See Jeffrey R. Holland, “Where Justice, Love, and Mercy Meet,” Ensign, May 2015, 105.)

Jurassic Park scarred me as a child to be scares of dinosaurs so I hope they won't attack us.

The advantage of being a god is that nothing can attack you.

True. Lucifer tried that against Heavenly Father and look how that turned out.

I doubt he tried to attack the Father. I think he saw it as a revolt to supplant the Son. Equally futile though I suppose.

What ! You didn't know that dinosaurs and man lived at the same time? Some of you are so far removed from the latest research!

( ducks and runs from the inevitable onslaught of tomatoes )

On a serious note, it's amazing that soft tissue and even possible DNA has been found and verified in dinosaur fossils which are said to be over 65 million years old.

Except when they are.

Latter-day revelation teaches that there was no death on this earth before the Fall of Adam. Indeed, death entered the world as a direct result of the Fall. Link

The scriptural interpretation of the Fall being applied to all life on the planet is strained at best. Never mind that Adam and Eve eating in the garden is already killing at least a part of an organism and causing death.

video,

oral teachings from some old timers suggest that this is the redemptive earth for thousands of other earths, and in fact the last one for this eternal round.  Its been said that the Earth itself needs to go through the process of a baptism of water and fire just like any individual with its final exalted state being like glass etc.

The thinking was that this earth was actually made up from portions of all these other planets falling under this redemption, and the Fossils are from those other planets.

Yes, I'm familiar with the Bible Dictionary.  And its limitations (emphasis added):

Quote

This dictionary provides a concise collection of definitions and explanations of Bible topics. It is based primarily on the biblical text, supplemented by information from the other standard works. A variety of doctrinal, cultural, and historical subjects are treated, and a short summary is included for each book of the Bible. Many of the entries draw on the work of Bible scholars and are subject to reevaluation as new research or revelation comes to light. This dictionary is provided to help your study of the scriptures and is not intended as an official statement of Church doctrine or an endorsement of the historical and cultural views set forth.

Here's a pretty good article from FAIR on this subject: Death before the Fall

And another: Statements by Church leaders and publications regarding no death before the Fall of Adam

And here's a critique of the first FAIR article above: FairMormon mistaken about death before the Fall

And here's a 2014 thread from this board on this subject: No Death Before The Fall Anywhere On Earth

And a collection of quotes about this subject: Was There Death Before the Fall?

And an essay on this subject by Steven E. Jones: Was There Death Before Adam?

Thanks,

Well, DNA is still a stretch, at least DNA in any complete sequence. Think of it like a hamburger. Just because you find a sesame seed on the floor doesn't mean there's a Big Mac hiding somewhere. (By that I am not implying that Big Macs are more than 65 million years old...regardless of what some critics say)

Fossils are from other planets? You're kidding, right? Are you saying that in order to fit the earth into a 6 to 10,000 year old creation scheme we have to ditch all research and studies of geology and paleontology and go for a junkyard theory of earth formation?

Have you found any serious researchers who have bought into this idea of "creation from spare parts"?

I am truly amazed and amused at the lengths that some will go to to posit their religion to deny science. NONE of the Standards Works of the Church were/are meant  to be taken as a science text book. Taht being said I  have no problem with the Scriptures telling me why God did it, and Science telling me how he did it.

All due deference to DNA, but it doesn't tell the whole story.
