What fun, unique, strange, variations of the ward christmas party have you seen? Most of them all seem to follow the same model (dinner, program, santa) but occasionally there is an activities coordinator that steps up their game (for good or bad) My strangest memory (at least to me it seemed strange) of a christmas party was the year of Joseph Smiths 200th birthday. (2005??) Our activities coordinator decided on a Christmas Party/Birthday Party for Joseph Smith. When we got there she had Birthday Cakes for both Joseph Smith and Jesus and we sang Happy Birthday to both Joseph Smith and Jesus. Singing "Happy Birthday Dear Jesus" seemed a little sacrilegious but the members were good sports. Any interesting memories of Christmas Parties past? In our neck of the woods the Christmas Party seemed to be one event that managed to bring out the less active members. Edited December 7, 2015 by sjdawg 1
Hamba Tuhan Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) Our ward's Christmas party was on Saturday, held at a ward member's farm. We spit-roasted a pig and a sheep. People swam in and canoed on the dam, and we had games for the kids, including a slip 'n' slide. The adults mostly helped get the food ready. The meal included the aforementioned roasts plus potluck dishes. After eating, we danced for a bit and then had a few comedy sketches, interspersed with Christmas carols accompanied by guitar. Then Father Christmas made an appearance and handed out small wrapped gifts for the primary kids. Then we cleaned up. Nothing unusual -- that's all pretty standard for our ward. That actually sounds like a great party. Where are you located? funny side story. The LDS church is obviously in different stages of progression based on different geographic locations. A couple of years ago my parents Bishop (in Canada) mentioned that his previous Bishop (in New Zealand I think) always ended his Christmas sacrament meeting talk with a lecture on drinking and driving. I'd like to see that in Utah...haha.

Tacenda Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) My favorites are the talent shows. Another I loved was similar to Hamba's, because it was near water and ate pig it was done at the Utah Lake while living in Riverton many years ago, nobody swam but it was a Luau. Now my ward does basically the same thing...dinner and a video of members in the ward and usually a service project, which is wonderful. But no Santa at our recent ones that I recall. strappinglad Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) I eagerly await the time when the ward Christmas party serves tofu , veggie burgers and frozen yogurt with soya drinks.
