But, really, there is nothing uplifting, praiseworthy or of good report in regards to the new policy. It does not draw people to Christ. It does not mesh with how most people view Jesus or the lds gospel.

How do most people view Jesus?  How would most people predict WWJD?  Do most people actually understand the NT and are able to articulate what Jesus wants to do in cases where people are practicing homosexuals?  Do the opinions of most people jibe with what the NT in fact says?  Or is biblical illiteracy rampant?  Is vox populi vox Dei?

Jesus wasn't a fan of Pharisees. The church is pharisaical.

Both Jesus and Paul appear to have been pharisaic rabbis, even though Jesus was a harsh critic of the religious establishment in Jerusalem, and frequently condemned hypocrisy.  Modern rabbinic Judaism is heir to the pharisaism of Beth Hillel -- which makes very high moral and ethical demands on its adherents.  That is the branch of Judaism of which Jesus and Paul were a part.

This is Social Hall where some of us come to relax, you want a debate or detailed discussion, please take it to the main forum

I agree. I didn't find it very social or relaxing for people to call out those jkwilliams was speaking of in the OP as tares or deceived. I thought it was uncharitable, especially considering this is the social hall. This should be a space free from that.

Why is this in Social Hall?

By the way, other than one online-only acquaintance, nobody I know has yet renounced his/her faith in the last few days. Nobody I know IRL is even considering it, to my knowledge.

And I know a whole lot of Mormons.

From what some people tell me, we should be happy and celebrating, but we are all heartbroken.

who said we should be happy and celebrating?

Since this is in the social hall please refrain from debate.  If the thread starter approves it can be moved to the general discussion page.

Seems like the opening post was rather argumentative right out of the gate.

Is starting a thread in Social Hall a way to make debatable assertions and have them be immune from challenge?

During the past week I have been inferred with apostate friends that it is basically "good riddance"..that the Celestial Kingdom would be better without us anyway,  It is just something I thought I would ever see here..If I could meet you face to face..laugh with you or share my story and you share yours..I would hope that the redemption of my lost soul would be of some worth in your eyes.  We are all special individuals..my life has value to me and to the people that care about me.  Because I feel differently about the Church of Jesus Christ doesn't make me a child of lesser God..doesn't put anyone on a pedestal.  My relationship with my Father in Heaven is real and just as valuable as yours..to take the feelings of people who left the church and paint horrid pictures of our lives is not only truly unfair..but un Christlike IMO.

All this being said, I love you guys.  I feel for our families..we will all be touched somehow with the decisions that have been made recently..but it shouldn't stop us from understanding that we all breathe and bleed.  After all is said and done..we still ask what is sin..what is good,,what is best for our children and grand children..our levels of faith and/or non faith does not hold a candle to the fact that we share a planet,.universerse  and never ending quest for knowledge to do what we can, the best we can.

Right now I feel very sorry for my friends and family who are hurting.  Those friends and family are on both sides of the fence and some will have to turn their backs to the other.

All these months on this board, I didn't realize that I didn't matter.  Don't care about that..but stop for a minute and realize we are really all the same.  And for the kids in this world..let them all be the same.

Many hugs,

Jeanne

I really wish there wasn't a line that gets crossed when members leave. Why is there an abrupt line that separates? It hurts, and people are afraid of getting the line drawn and they stay in the church to keep it from happening. They aren't living their true selves, I think it's in a way, of Satan or evil.

Faith must allow for periods of doubt and illumination. We prepare for both through constant study, prayer and fasting...if not we can get lost in the darkness or blinded by the light. Either way it can cause us to let go of the iron rod and be lost, making it almost impossible to find our way back.

I'm interested in some "blinded by the light" examples.  What are you referring to here?

When a person is unprepared to recieve revelation, they run the risk of understanding it. This can lead them to walk down the wrong path...even the path of apostasy, believing themselves to understand more than their appointed leaders. Paul, was blinded by the light and it took a Priesthood holder to cause the scales to fall from his eyes, and much instruction to become the the Apostle that he became. This is the reason that new members have to wait to enter the Temple, and why they attend classes to prepare them for the "light and knowledge" that they can and will recieve. Some who leave the Church can be Zealots and Zealots are often, "illuminated and blinded by the same light. So if it be lights of revelation or the darkness of doubt, if not prepared the effect can be the same. Also to the unprepared, the light they are often drawn to is a flame, and with no Spiritual decrement, like a moth they are drawn to it with deadly consequences. I have (or had) a friend who fell into the trap, believing he knew better that the Prophets.

My 2 cents anyway...

Thanks Pa Pa,  I just wondered as revelation was something I worked very hard on, and was the cause of my fall.  Blinded by the illumination does not seem to fit, but indeed it was not doubt but issues of personal revelation of which I struggled.

For the record, I was not saying anyone here would or should be rejoicing at my friends' resignations. I was saying that some people believe we apostates rejoice when someone leaves the church. I don't, as I said. I'm sorry you read my OP as argumentative or hostile to you or anyone else. Happy New Year, Scott.

Going through cancer, I rejoice when someone reaches that 5 yr line in the sand (I'm not their yet).  But man, I would not wish that on anyone!

Going through a faith crisis, I rejoice when someone reaches that resignation line in the sand (I'm not their yet).  But man, I would not wish that on anyone!

Maybe it somehow got unlocked with the board upgrade.

Either way, I'm glad I was able to clarify that I wasn't trying to be argumentative or saying what you thought I said. So, it's all good.
