Flyonthewall Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Based on you actions in this thread, I doubt you would recognize the Savior if he was standing right in front of you with his arms outstretched towards you. You should try being more Christlike yourself before you come and preach down to us. Something about motes and beams. Not only are trees hiding the forest, but beams block out most everything else when it comes to mormonism...
Vance Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 I'm an expert on Mormonism, . . .You are bearing false witness.
Vance Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 So Mormons celebrate Yom Kippur ?WOW!!! Your ignorance knows no bounds. And you call yourself an expert. LOL!!!
HOLY CATHOLIC Posted April 20, 2015 Author Posted April 20, 2015 Not only are trees hiding the forest, but beams block out most everything else when it comes to mormonism... I know they wouldn't allow Jesus in Mormon buildings with a beard and no white shirt and tie
JLHPROF Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 I know they wouldn't allow Jesus in Mormon buildings with a beard and no white shirt and tie You're confusing Church with BYU. There's no required dress at Church other than to be respectful.
HOLY CATHOLIC Posted April 20, 2015 Author Posted April 20, 2015 Since Mormons are Christians, that sentence makes no sense. Which doesn't support your assertion. Incidentally, the caption on that YouTube clip you provided is intentionally deceitful. Who is responsible for it? Sorry didn't write caption, mine would have said " Mormons don't teach the Jesus of the Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 26:12 And as I spake concerning the convincing of the Jews, that Jesus is the very Christ, it must needs be that the Gentiles be convinced also that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God; 3 Nephi 11:17 Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God! And they did fall down at the feet of Jesus, and did worship him. Mosiah 3:5 For behold, the time cometh, and is not far distant, that with power, the Lord Omnipotent who reigneth, who was, and is from all eternity to all eternity, shall come down from heaven among the children of men, and shall dwell in a tabernacle of clay, and shall go forth amongst men, working mighty miracles, such as healing the sick, raising the dead, causing the lame to walk, the blind to receive their sight, and the deaf to hear, and curing all manner of diseases. 3 Nephi 19: 18 And behold, they began to pray; and they did pray unto Jesus, calling him their Lord and their God. Mosiah 5:15 Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through the wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all. Amen. 2 Nephi 10:3 3 Wherefore, as I said unto you, it must needs be expedient that Christ—for in the last night the angel spake unto me that this should be his name—should come among the Jews, among those who are the more wicked part of the world; and they shall crucify him—for thus it behooveth our God, and there is none other nation on earth that would crucify their God. Jesus is God above all, our Lord and God, God from Eternity, the Most High God and the eternal God according to the Book of Mormon
Flyonthewall Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 I know they wouldn't allow Jesus in Mormon buildings with a beard and no white shirt and tieLOL!!! You are definitely an expert alright... on baseless anti-mormonism drivel.
carbon dioxide Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 When I read the Book of Mormon, the last thing on my mind is the creeds. One can understand it without ever reading the creeds. So if one wants to interpret the creeds in a way that follows the teachings of the Book of Mormon, go for it. One should not interpret the passages in the Book of Mormon so that it falls in line with the creeds. That would be an abomination.

I know the Creeds and I know the BOM agrees with the Creeds except the Athanasion Creed that says not to confound the persons [ mixing the up ] which has been done in Mosiah 15 3 The Father, because he was conceived by the power of God; and the Son, because of the flesh; thus becoming the Father and Son— 4 And they are one God, yea, the very Eternal Father of heaven and of earth. Mosiah 16: 15 Teach them that redemption cometh through Christ the Lord, who is the very Eternal Father. Amen. Alma 11:38 Now Zeezrom saith again unto him: Is the Son of God the very Eternal Father? Ether 3:14 Behold, I am he who was prepared from the foundation of the world to redeem my people. Behold, I am Jesus Christ. I am the Father and the Son. smac97 Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 (edited) Everyone of the statements I posted from the Book of Mormon completely disagrees with Joseph Smith and Mormonism No, they don't. if you choose one I would be happy to expound No, thanks. I don't think you started this thread in good faith. I do not think yours is a sincere desire to communicate about LDS doctrine and belief. please produce a statement that is false If I thought you started this thread in good faith, I would attempt to respond in kind and commence a thoughtful exchange of ideas. But I don't, so I won't. Thanks, -Smac Edited April 20, 2015 by smac97

Just don't demand that I read it that way. When I read the Book of Mormon, I see the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost to be separate beings. Jesus is on the earth with the Nephites and prays to the Father who is in heaven. Jesus is at point A and the Father at point B. I read the meaning that they are "one God" with the same meaning that the scriptures attach to other individuals being one yet different people. Paul and Apollos are ONE yet two different men. Jesus told his disciples in John 17 to be one even though clearly they are separate beings. Now if my views match what the creeds say, that is great. Some how I doubt that. If one needs the creeds to understand how they are one, they have issues. Clearly his disciples understood without needing a creed to explain it to them.
Kevin Christensen Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 So Mormons celebrate Yom Kippur ? If you had bothered to read Welch's essay, you'd see that the point I was making is not that Mormons celebrate Yom Kippur, but that Benjamin's discourse is best understood when a reader includes and understanding of specific Day of Atonement riturals. And if you had bothered to read Gardner's essay, you's have gotten a glimpse into the difference it makes to read the Book of Mormon in a pre-exilic context, rather than part of a 21st century proof-text fes. You have to know who El Elyon was and who Yahweh was and how they were understood in Pre-Exilic Israel. If you don't explore that, you're reading against modern preconceptions. Soil and nurture makes a huge difference in the harvest from the same words. That is the point of the parable of the sower FWIW Kevin Christensen Bethel Park, PA 1
