The Future - If Not Mormonism, Then What?

Suppose that the Christian Dominionists got their wish,

and by some totally strange and unexpected set of

events The USA became a truly "Christian" country --

Constitution and laws adjusted to establish a taxation

supported State Church -- cross over the White House --

mandatory prayer in public schools etc.

If that new State Church could not be the LDS, then

WHICH sect do you suppose you could live under,

(and not be seeking citizenship in some other country)?

After some consideration given the thought, I suppose

I could go along OK with my life under Calvinist dominion --

Presbyterian -- Congregational -- United Church of Christ.

At least they have a known track record in old New England

and in the Kirk of Scotland. We'd know what we were getting.

Most dreaded possibility -- some off-the-wall Aryan Nation

set of fanatics with a racist agenda and a bogus explanation

of past history.

These guys...

Ditto. Or maybe the Mennonites.

Problem is -- groups like that would obviously opt

for the General Sherman response...

All the better.

Though maybe I should point out that I don't live in the US ...

That is exactly why I want them in charge. Immediate abdication.

I don't trust an apostle who wants the office. I honor that they accept it as a duty from God and fulfill it as best they can but coveting power is a bad thing. One of the things I dislike about democracy is it gives power to people who crave it.

Give that priest the Regency of France!

(But don't let him know there's an America)

d'Artagnan and his friends should be able to handle him.

I'd move to New Zealand, and be an ex-pat. If Pahoran would have me. ;)

No doubt he'd complain that your move would lower the

virtue of both nations...

Was it Pahoran who chopped down the tree on One Tree Hill,

or was it George Washington, with his little hatchet?

I always get those two confused in my mind.

The Unitarians. They seem open minded enough to let me keep my Book of Mormon.

The trouble there, is that despite their origins in Congregationalism,

today's Unitarian churches contain very few professing Christians.

Probably not enough of them to raise that much-desired golden

cross atop the Washington White House.

No -- it would take a large, strong-willed, like-minded bunch of

latter day patriots to get Christianity established as the State

Religion, no matter the difficulties.

Probably it would take a sect which was born and nurtured in

America -- one prepared to meet Christ in a Second Coming

set in the skies over the USA.

(odd... I only see white faces):

Maybe the Second Adventists would be a better choice than

the Old World Church of Scotland presbytery.

Different trees. From what we know of the apocryphal hatchet story the tree didn't survive. The chain saw one amazingly did. Just goes to show New Zealand trees are tougher. ;)

I failed the question, but then I'm a very poor dominionist. My ancestors rode over here in 1620 in order to get away from that crap.

Unfortunately they did not think much about separating

church and state. The Plymouth Pilgrims were a mild set,

though, in comparison with their more domineering

Puritan brethren. Not sure that the Pilgrims would have

burned witches at Salem (although they would have seen

nothing wrong in having the civil courts uphold canon law).

Community standards are pretty easy to define when the whole nation fits on a few boats. The natives in the background wondering what the heck these white people are doing with their abandoned villages notwithstanding.

I suppose any of the Christian sects would be okay with me as long as I didn't have to wear a robe while preaching from a pulpit, and as long as I could still be LDS.
