Looks like this is projected for some point during the last half of this century.

According to Cook, the current likelihood of a megadrought, a drought lasting more than three decades, is 12 percent. If greenhouse gas emissions stop increasing in the mid-21st century, Cook and his colleagues project the likelihood of megadrought to reach more than 60 percent.

However, if greenhouse gas emissions continue to increase along current trajectories throughout the 21st century, there is an 80 percent likelihood of a decades-long megadrought in the Southwest and Central Plains between the years 2050 and 2099.

I suggest we genetically engineer ourselves to need less water, more efficiently use what we use.

If the projections are right, the U.S could be struggling for a generation.

Thoughts?

Well Utah's winter this year certainly makes it a possiblity...but maybe New York will share with us.

There is a reason why Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system, please remember the Mercury is closer to the Sun.

Earth is 92 million miles away from the Sun, Venus is 67 million miles away from the Sun.

In 2013 temperature of the Earth was 58.3 degrees Fahrenheit,  the temperature in Venus is more than 800 degrees Fahrenheit.

The reason is that there is far more CO2 in Venus.

I think the issue isn't whether we are contributing to climate change or not.  We probably are.  How could we not be?

I think the issue is does it really matter?  For those who truly believe the Millennium is imminent and Christ will return shortly, it's not like the earth's going to turn into Waterworld or the entire population will be roasted by a lack of ozone.

God didn't create this earth for his children, send our Savior to give us eternal life, and set a plan involving the Millennium and the earth's resurrection in place only to allow us foolish mortals to destroy it all by polluting.

We should be wise stewards and act accountable with the gifts God has provide us.  But worrying about making ourselves extinct or rendering the earth uninhabitable is a little outside of the possible, at least in my opinion.

The scientific literature doesn't say that humans will become extinct in the 21st century, here are the effects, please do not exaggerate the science.

So God will not let us destroy ourselves? That does not seem very scriptural.

I agree that being neurotic about it is not helpful but we probably should take steps to mitigate the situation. Too bad there is no political will for it. The Baby Boomers bequeathed us obsolete infrastructure they refused to pay to maintain. Perhaps this generation's gift will be dealing with mass extinctions and crop failures. It isn't all bad. Nephi actually asked for it to happen to his people so they would stop killing each other.

Midwest in 1930's.  Dust bowl sound familiar.

CO2 caused deniers always think that scientists are ignorant.  1934 was a hot year for the USA (regional surface temperature).

The hot regional temperature in 1934 had a natural cause, there is evidence for that.

There is no evidence that our current global climate change has a natural cause.

Well it would make the last few chapters of Revelation a false prophecy, not to mention some of Isaiah and a chunk of the D&C.

Humans are natural. I think you mean: There is no evidence that our current global climate change has a unnatural cause.

I am speaking of destruction in the non-ultimate sense.

.And weather cycles are very natural and other natural factors affect them.

The definition of Natural is - "existing in nature and not made or caused by people"

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/natural

The burning of fossil fuels (human activity) is causing climate change, so our current climate change does not have a natural cause.

That is one definition. There are lots of them and under some of them it would be natural.

Man does exist in nature.  That is unless you hold to the idea that man is a transplanted alien.

I lived on another world before I came here. I was sent here for a time. By many definitions I am a transplanted alien.

So it is you causing all the problems?

Water is going to be a scarce resource in the next 100 years. Climate change and variation are happening. Do we cause it? If so how much? It seems to be at least some by man. Will China and India help with carbon emissions? No way! I am changing my landscaping to use way less water and I work in limiting carbon emissions when I can. Not because I am an environmental Waco, it just makes sense to me.

Water has been and will continue to be scarce in some areas across this planet.  Water is plentiful and will also continue to be in some areas across this planet.  We live on an ever changing planet which will continue to change despite our best or worst efforts.
