Calm Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 1. But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be spoken evil of. 3. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not."So you are saying the Trinity is one of those damnable heresies?
Levi951 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Levi, generally speaking mods discouraged just posting scriptures without any discussion attached. My position on this matter is that of which the scripture I quoted states. That the scriptural prophecy is of no private interpretation it did not come from the will of man but by the Holy Ghost. I believe that to promote the opposite view point would be to fundamentally create distrust for the word of God which can have devastating consequences. With love and hope that we may all be one in Christ.
mfbukowski Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 What is the point of the story, Jim? Mark quotes Wittgenstein that the story is "a description of something that actually takes place in human life. For 'consciousness of sin' is a real event and so are despair and salvation through faith. Those who speak of such things (Bunyan for instance) are simply describing what has happened to them, whatever gloss anyone may want to put on it." Is Wittgenstein correct? Is this the correct way to interpret, not only the Bible, but also Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress? Are the Creation and Garden Stories allegories, metaphors, figurative, etc.? Or are they supposed to be scientific and historical texts?Notice that they could also be both. That is not ruled out by any means. The problem is that we cannot know if any of them "actually happened" except by faith, so if we take them both ways, we learn the lessons they teach and use those lessons in our lives which ultimately is what is important anyway. I do not have to understand every chemical reaction that happens when I turn the key to my car- all that matters to me is that I get to work on time. One description of those chemical reactions is as good as any other as far as I am concerned, I don't have to worry about or "care" which particular description is true in some cosmic sense- all that matters is that I end up at work and they guy who signs my check is happy.
Tacenda Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 (edited) http://hotm.tv/episode-431-pastor-jason-wallace-confronts-shawn-mccraney/ This is an interesting debate. More maybe for myself than others, but wanted to share. I wish I could give a better introduction, scriptures are not my forte. But thought it interesting that the two are debating. I guess I thought they were a lot the same in belief. Shawn is evolving, who knows maybe he'll evolve clear back to Mormonism, but probably not. He's leaning far to the left nowadays.
