Fair Mormon Review Of Zinner's Enoch Book

I Just had a review (my first) of Samuel Zinner's book on 1 and 2 Enoch published on the Fair Mormon blog. The long and short of it is that despite some reservations, I like the book. At the very least, Zinner provides some useful conceptual models. Has anyone else had a chance to read the book, or part of it?

Haven't yet read it.

But nice review, Allen.

Thanks.

Just found this thread- first of all CONGRATULATIONS!

I wish I could comment intelligently on the subject matter but it's a little too esoteric for me to say anything worthwhile, but I DO understand the perils of trying to translate poetry, and my hat's off to anyone who tries it.

Translating ancient poetry has got to be practically impossible, but on the other hand, incredibly important to the attempt to understand the ancients.  I am a bit of a student of linguistic meaning in general and how tied in to the culture it is, and to glimpse anything from a culture so far removed from our own has to be a noble thing to attempt.

Thanks for the review-  it is an area I would like to explore further!
