    • Physical AND Spiritual as long as we keep our covenants.
    • Physical AND Spiritual (against the adversary only) with covenant keeping.

here is our promise of clothing:

Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
(Revelation 19:7- 8)

let us put on Christ, who is the fullness of the former things revealed in shadows!

A belief in the covenants which garments symbolically represent does not negate or contradict the belief that it is only thru the Atonement that a person can be justified.

I can very much believe that Christ's atonement is sufficient to save (which I do) while also believing that God has commanded that we make certain covenants with Him.

Or you could try Revelation 3:4

4Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

5He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

The title of this thread is why many non-LDS think the LDS Church is strange.

When I was still TBM, I was instructed by certain LDS authority figures to never let the garments touch the floor, whether it be during a shower or while sorting laundry. I thought that was over-the-top counsel.

While I was a Boy Scout, and when I was a Soldier, when it came to handling the National colors I was instructed never to let them touch the ground.

I never thought that was over-the-top counsel.

The problem with the community at large is that they have generally given up on sacred symbols and sacred principles, and are frankly embarrassed by them.  So flags are dropped on the ground, garments are mocked in public, and personal public chastity is laughed at.  A sign of the times, I believe.

For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place;

and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

(James 2:2-4)

if we ought not judge another by their clothes,

why be deceived thinking clothes commend you to God?

Judging by their clothes?  What rock did you just crawl out from under?  I don't generally walk around in my underwear for all to see.  And interestingly, when in the temple and wearing all-white clothing, all appear equal in the eyes of God, because they are.  There is no judging, except perhaps here, where self-righteous outsiders proclaim their superiority because they wear no sacred clothing.

The priests in the Temple at Jerusalem wore clothing which was specific and sacred to their calling, and this was given and in fact commanded by God.  Will you mock them as well?

no one can come to the Father unless the Father calls them.

why do you think clothes commend you to God? your response was not even close to an explanation or exegesis.

Interesting.

Do you believe the Bible is true because the Father called you to it?

I am glad you have a testimony that the bible is true.  You should read the Book of Mormon and get a testimony of that as well.  That is the next step.

It seems all you do is parrot the bible- how do you know it is true?  Why should we even listen to it?

I've been wearing these garments for 9 years and I would feel naked without them. I feel I'm honoring my covenants I made in the temple and they're for remembering. I have been protected in many situations that could have been so worse, so I do believe they can provide protection from evil.

Yep. It's too bad when alleged christians throw insults to prove they are christians. Pretty sad.
