thesometimesaint Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Rodeo, you have to be more specific or his answer will me "some I do, some I don't"You can believe that there was a a literal Adam and Eve and even a garden, but that the creation of Eve from a Rib and other topics are not literally true. I believe Adam and Eve were real live people that for a time lived in the Garden of Eden. That through the priesthood power processes they became the spiritual progenitors of our species. I eagerly await more revelation from God and God inspired science as to how he did it.

Thats a good start. 2 questions for you. 1-Do you believe that God planned the creation and then carried it out? Is there a design element in that planning process in the which made life possible?
Tiki Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 God created the Heavens and the Earth in 7 days. Of course, the LDS Scriptures indicate that 1 day for The Lord is a thousand years for us.But science claims that the Earth is Billions of years old. And that the creation occurred through Evolution, as we all know, Men and Women evolved from single-celled amoebas or such. Thus each "Day" of creation is millions if not billions of years long.** Thus on the Seventh Day, The Lord rested. **And this is why so many Well Educated People don't believe in God. God is still resting. The billion year Seventh Day of Rest is not over yet. We are all left to our own devices because the Creator is taking a long nap. 1
thesometimesaint Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 So your question for God is, basically: Where do babies come from?I hope you'll accept his answer when he tells you. I know where babies come from. My theology says their spirits came from God, and their mortal bodies came from my wife and I.

Is there a design element in that planning process in the which made life possible? Yes. Yes. But my beliefs are not relevant to science. All of us are free to believe or not believe as we choose. IE; I know what 2+2 is. I have no idea as to what 2+2+God is.

I have no idea as to what 2+2+God is. It appears then that you believe life does not assemble itself without a designer to start it somehow. Is this correct?
Tacenda Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Too tired to look through old threads, hopefully not hi- jacking. Has anyone here had any experience with spirits on the other side? I just feel so hopeless lately that there isn't. Not to get personal, but every once in awhile it helps keep up my faith in God, need a crutch right now. Mods, I don't know if this post fits in enough for the OP or not. Sorry if it doesn't.
Calm Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) Social Hall had some awhile back.Focusing on the positive of life and consciously not wallowing in the negative---just do what you need to do to deal with it, whether that is pay bills, go to the doctor, etc---ans put aside the negative you can do nothing about because it saps your energy would be wise.Find one thing you really enjoy and as much as you can do it daily. Exercise daily, exercise has about a 24 hour mood lifting effect. And eat well. Go get a check up and see if you need Vit D (if you use sunscreen or don't go out much in the sun). Tacenda Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Cal I'll check Social. Thanks for good advice.
thesometimesaint Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 It appears then that you believe life does not assemble itself without a designer to start it somehow. Is this correct? Somewhat. life is independent of a designer. IOW How would we know it if God did it any other way?
Rodeo Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Somewhat. life is independent of a designer. IOW How would we know it if God did it any other way? I am curious as to your somewhat answer. Rather than specify exactly how God did it, it is most important to just realize that life is a design that was planned and brought forth by intelligence.

Rather than specify exactly how God did it, it is most important to just realize that life is a design that was planned and brought forth by intelligence. Again I'm fine with God. However I can not use God, or God like force, as methodology for any natural event. Science by definition can not use the supernatural to explain the natural. IE; I know what 2+2 equals. I have no clue as to what 2+2+God equals. Surely, God could have caused birds to fly with their bones made of solid gold, with their veins full of quicksilver, with their flesh heavier than lead, and with their wings exceedingly small. He did not, and that ought to show something. It is only in order to shield your ignorance that you put the Lord at every turn to the refuge of a miracle.Galileo. But you admit it takes Gos (intelligence) in order for life o come into existence.
thesometimesaint Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 But you admit it takes Gos (intelligence) in order for life o come into existence. Nope. I believe God was involved. That belief is irrelevant to the existence of life. An Atheist can make just as compelling an argument for the non involvement of any God. It is irrelevant for the Atheist and Theist alike.SEE
Rodeo Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 You believe God was involved but not necessary. Is that what you believe?
VideoGameJunkie Posted September 7, 2014 Author Posted September 7, 2014 Tacenda, read the book Beyond Death's Door by Brent and Wendy Top. It's all about Near Death Experiences on the other side of the veil from non LDS and it shows how they correlate with what the gospel teaches. I love that book.
changed Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) It seems so many atheists are well educated and intelligent in science and academics. Even Stephen Hawking is an atheist. Why is that? I'm not calling believers uneducated, I'm just saying a lot of atheists are very well educated.I think everyone is well educated. There are book smarts, and then there is wisdom gained from experience. You either spend time learning out of books (and getting PhD's) or learning from real life and getting wisdom... My opinion, people who spend too much time in books lose track of reality.... Has anyone else here watched "Particle Fever" about the Higgs particle they found in the large hadron loop last year? There is a little swearing in it, but watch it - they did not find anything that anyone predicted. All of the theories everyone was so "sure were right" were dead wrong. What an embarrassment to spend all that money, time, hours of work... all I can say is shame on the scientific community for insinuating theories were fact. It's not dentists against religionIt's not accountants vs. religionIt's not lawyers against religionIt's not engineers against religionIt's not artists, or writers, or musicians against religion....What people don't realize, is science is not applied. (If it is applied it's engineering, not sciece)... if it is not applied, it's only theory, it's not real... If it's not applied, what good is it? It's good for nothing in my opinion. VideoGameJunkie Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 changed, I agree that some people spend too much time in books and not enough time living, but everyone should at least gain some knowledge.

I'm not calling believers uneducated, I'm just saying a lot of atheists are very well educated.Education and wisdom are different. The scriptures says (To paraphrase) "When men think they are learned they think they are wise, and set at naught the things of God". But ALS we are told that "to be learned is good" (if) we keep proper perspective. I used too lecture Engineering firms and at Georgia Tech (still do when my back can take it), and there are a lot of non-believers, but there are others who marvel at God's creation the more they learn.
The Nehor Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 The educated are morons....just like everyone else.
Guest Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 The educated are morons....just like everyone else.No...they have degrees
The Nehor Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 No...they have degrees Admittedly yes, there are degrees of idiocy.
Tiki Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 (edited) I like Jonathan Swift's descriptions, from his satire "Gulliver's Travels"Part lll Chapter 5http://www.literatureproject.com/gulliver-travel/gulliver_21.htm"[The author permitted to see the grand academy of Lagado. The academy largely described. The arts wherein the professors employ themselves.]The first man I saw was of a meagre aspect, with sooty hands and face, his hair and beard long, ragged, and singed in several places. His clothes, shirt, and skin, were all of the same colour. He has been eight years upon a project for extracting sunbeams out of cucumbers, which were to be put in phials hermetically sealed, and let out to warm the air in raw inclement summers. He told me, he did not doubt, that, in eight years more, he should be able to supply the governor's gardens with sunshine, at a reasonable rate: but he complained that his stock was low, and entreated me "to give him something as an encouragement to ingenuity, especially since this had been a very dear season for cucumbers." I made him a small present, for my lord had furnished me with money on purpose, because he knew their practice of begging from all who go to see them." Edited September 8, 2014 by Tiki
