Tiki Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 You are quite welcome. Pretty much. Though it is more likely that only most of the priests had access to the translated scriptures. I doubt that most of the population was literate. It is also important to note that the scriptures they used were not the Book of Mormon but the teachings of their own current prophets with bits of their own history combined with even less of pre-migration scripture. Of course they also followed the Law of Moses until the time of Christ which means that was most likely translated and distributed amongst the literate. There is no way to be certain how the Priesthood was distributed amongst the Nephites but it is likely that those who were holders of the priesthood and were literate had translations. Yes, just like our not distributing the gold plates to all members of the Church and to the world at large is a secret agenda intended to suppress the Book of Mormon instead of an open attempt to share it in a language the reader will understand. We even hide the English version we have. Why....when my brother went on a mission to Brazil he was distributing PORTUGUESE Book of Mormons if you can believe that. Truly we hide the scriptures well by giving them to people in their native tongue. I have no attachment to the idea that Nephites were Mayans. Even if they were I see no reason to believe that they would decorate their buildings with a dead language instead of the common tongue. I have no idea if they spoke Mayan or what they spoke. It is actually the exact opposite of Catholic priests using Latin. It would be what Catholic Priests do now. Using the language the people speak. Incidentally based on your your inferences I astutely determined that you are a cretinous idiot. Thanks for stopping by Meldrum. Please come again.I'm not Meldrum. But Meldrum is in good company, because those who propose a Mesoamerica setting also called the Prophet Joseph Smith an idiot, not those exact words mind you, but this nicely placed phrase:"What may startle some about this situation is that most of what Joseph Smith said or implied about geography indicates that he did not understand or was ambiguous about the fact..."http://publications.maxwellinstitute.byu.edu/fullscreen/?pub=1099&index=19&keyword=Said%20or%20impliedYep, Joseph Smith didn't understand....geography. Brilliant. He was an idiot, maybe even a cretinous one, along with Meldrum, and apparently myself. I'll take that as an honor. Thank you very much. So since you are so familiar with the Book of Mormon, I being the cretinous idiot, (I'm impressed with you upper class vocabulary) what CFR have you that the few Nephite "Leaders" and "Priests" translated the scriptures into the common language of the humdrum lower class crass language of the Nephite "peones?" You know, the type of language you're familiar with. And please, don't point me to some article written by the now lost and scattered remnant of F.A.R.M.S., since their business model is now bankrupt, because they believe the Nephites were in the world of the Maya but never of it and they preach Joseph Smith was an idiot. I believe were are all tired of their Maya Pyramid Scheme.

I suspect he saw visions of Nephite times. Whether he could tell from them where those events took place...I doubt. If I saw a vision of Ammon preaching to the Lamanites I doubt I could localize exactly where it happened. Yep, Joseph Smith didn't understand....geography. Brilliant. He was an idiot, maybe even a cretinous one, along with Meldrum, and apparently myself. I'll take that as an honor. Thank you very much. No, I think I will stick with just you being a cretinous idiot. Meldrum is more of a priestcrafter. So since you are so familiar with the Book of Mormon, I being the cretinous idiot, (I'm impressed with you upper class vocabulary) what CFR have you that the few Nephite "Leaders" and "Priests" translated the scriptures into the common language of the humdrum lower class crass language of the Nephite "peones?" I believe were are all tired of their Maya Pyramid Scheme. I don't have said CFR (you do realize saying I have a CFR is meaningless right?) It is however logical and fits with other historical societies. I could be wrong. Maybe they all spoke Hebrew but that still would not help them much in reading Reformed Egyptian or Egyptian of any kind. I could of course call for a CFR from you detailing how you know it was the common tongue and for evidence for your bizarre idea that all the Nephites were all writing in Reformed Egyptian but people who ask for CFRs are generally nimrods (in the modern, not biblical sense).
rodheadlee Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Wasn't there a cylinder found in Mexico with Anthon script characters on it?
cdowis Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Nehor, I am puzzled why you are attempting to have a conversation with Tiki. Are you taking his arguments seriously, or are you just bored?
Kevin Christensen Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Wasn't there a cylinder found in Mexico with Anthon script characters on it?Two of them. See this: http://www.shields-research.org/General/SEHA/SEHA_Newsletter_122-2.PDF Best, Kevin Christensen Pittsburgh, PA
The Nehor Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Are you taking his arguments seriously, or are you just bored?Mostly the latter. I do not take anything here very seriously. Once in a blue moon I say something serious but only if I think I. Have real insight into an important topic.
cinepro Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Tiki, May I ask you, have you ever given a lecture in shorthand? Or is shorthand only a *written* form, not a language. If you had actually read the BOM, you would know Refrmed Egyptian was Hebrew writings using an Egyptian script ==>> a form of shorthand writing. Now tell us again about common sense. You may be more right than you realize...
