BCSpace Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 (edited) But are there not Biblical references to people being "formed in the womb"? Any in conjunction with being a literal son of God? Adam was surely formed in his father's womb according to evolution, but the Bible makes a distinction between the descendents of Adam being the literal sons of their fathers while Adam was merely formed in the womb of someone. It also dovetails with LDS doctrine that Jesus is the only literal son of the Father (begotten: spirit and flesh), at least in the context of this world. Edited October 17, 2013 by BCSpace
Bill “Papa” Lee Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Was Adam the physical offspring of Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother, or was he created from the dust of this Earth?Adam was created from the duct of the. Earth. Eve was created from the DNA of Adam. This is how it happened and in no other way. They we're create in the image of God, then Seth was created in the express image of his fathers. We don't look like God, God looks like us and we a create in his imagine.

danielwoods Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Except that even the "dust thou art" is incorrect. We're about 80% water. Interestingly chemically we're very close to ancient sea water.Incorrect in your opinion. The context constrains us. Out of the ground we are created and back to the ground we go when death arrives.

Without water there is no life as we know it.http://www.lapetus.uchile.cl/lapetus/archivos/1334358922pin05.pdf Even if you took all the water out of a human body it would still be nowhere near to dust. We'd be a small lump of coal rolled in dirt. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composition_of_the_human_body

The bible is clear we were created out of dust. What the bible isn't attempting to do is describe it from a scientific perspective. God is simply telling us our lives are fully dependent on him. He breathed life into mere dust.

I have no problem with Gods' opinion. Just some mortal peoples' opinion of God's workings. The OT part of the Bible for whatever its other virtues was written by a Stone and Bronze Age goat and sheep herding people(Nothing against goat and sheep herders). It was never meant to be a science book, and it is foolish to try to impose any religious text onto science. BTW The Bible has plenty of science errors in it. IE; Pi is equal to exactly 3.I have no problem with being dependent on God. I am however not so dependent on what mortals tell me of how God did it.

blooit Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 God created man over millions of years using the natural process of evolution. He visited from time to time to monitor and make interventions. When man was ready, he placed a spirit within that evolved body. He then commanded that man to "overcome the natural (evolved) man" through the spirit demonstrating the power of the spirit over the flesh. In this way he does not place evil desires into man, but allows them to be present and commands man to overcome them. Just my humble opinion of course.
Tacenda Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 No, not in my personal opinion. The whole subject is in flux. The Bible is a Standard Work, but unlike the other Standard Works its contents are not considered to always accurately reflect doctrine. I suspect there are a large number of Mormons on both sides of this question, and it is not one that Correlation would be willing to allow the General Authorities to speak out upon as it is way beyond "milk" and we do not want to violate the most important policy of Correlation namely "milk before meat" and the PA department's aversion to having GAs speak on such subjects under the rubric that most people are swine, therefore you don't cast pearls before the people.Doesn't our doctrine on pre mortal existence mean we're the literal children? Which does contradict the bible? Since we are supposedly only children of God by coming to Him by faith, not by just being born? When we sing "I am a Child of God" is this contradicting the bible? I guess you could say we do need works of faith to get there according to the bible, where we're adopted children of HF.
thesometimesaint Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 (edited) We are all literal children of God the Father. We become the adopted children of Christ by doing what he says. Edited October 19, 2013 by thesometimesaint
Tacenda Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 (edited) We are all literal children of God the Father. We become the adopted children of Christ by doing what he says.Do you have a biblical scripture to back this up? I'd love to understand this better, since there is some confusion as to if Jesus is our brother or our God, meaning our father also. Edited October 19, 2013 by Tacenda

ERayR Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 We are all literal children of God the Father. We become the adopted children of Christ by doing what he says. In the evolutionary scheme just when did we become evolved enough to be literal children of God? What happens to all those intermediate steps, are they just damned and cast off?

Both Christ and Satan are our spiritual siblings.
Tacenda Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Yes and how are you applying this to this topic? The scripture tells me Adam was the dust of the earth, therefore a created being, not by a birth canal. Isn't that what the OP asked?

Didn't you and your husband create your children and out of the elements(dust) of the earth? You are putting a very narrow interpretation on create, IMO.

You are putting a very narrow interpretation on create, IMO.Everyone is free to make up what ever meaning they wish to their words, however the original intent of "out of the dust" only meant out of the dust of the ground, as in a complete and full miracle of God not a natural birth we observe happen every day.

Pardon me but just because you say that is what it means does not give me much comfort. I am sure that is how you understand it but others understand it differently.

You are putting a very narrow interpretation on create, IMO.You just have to quit saying things I agree with. Mormons, to my knowledge, have always believed that human spirits are the literal children of God. We may become Christ's by and through our faith, but that does not take away from the fact that we are the Spirit Children of HF and that Christ is our spiritual sibling.
