Calm Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 I PM'd Ares about adding the Awen symbol (/|\) to my name about a week or so ago. I should probably try someone a little more active.Nemesis is the top gun, I believe.
Calm Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 One more thought. A pseudonym is different from an "anonym"! When we use the same identification repeatedly, it is not anonymity. An anonymous letter is unsigned. A "pseudonymous" letter has a signature, and if the the pseudonymous name appears frequently, a personality begins to be known and associated with it. There needs to be a distinction made between anonymity and "pseudonymity."Very few would make the connection between me posting under my real name elsewhere with my presence here. However, I believe my alias is unique in the world so anyone could find me online through that....and I don't act any different with either name in public, whether it is in real life or where anyone can view it. The only real difference with private forums, whether in my home or a private list is that I will share personal information that I don't see as important or necessary to share publicly and I do allow some of the more transient emotions to run rampant a bit more because I trust that the people who see them won't take them the wrong way...they know me well enough not to assume that one post alone gives them a realistic view of who I am.
EllenMaksoud Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 (edited) My old moniker was EnemyAce and people always thought it was a bit aggressive. I agreed. Additionally, I thought that if I place my name as a by line of things I really believe then it would keep me honest and sincere.I would like to change mine to "Khadijah, Queen of the Desert". Nathair/|\ Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Nemesis is the top gun, I believe.His/her inbox was full when I tried.
Calm Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 I use the report function for asking if somethingbcould be pinned. Perhaps you could do the same for a name change.
Lady_Lullaby Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 My rules are pretty simple. Always be on your best behavior when dealing online with others, and never put anything online you don't want made public. That goes for your real name as opposed to your screen name as well. I like that rule.
Bill “Papa” Lee Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 There is, actually, a danger with cyberstalking and care is needed when using your own name on the web. Having said that, he is correct in principle. If you're using your own name, you are more likely to be careful what you post and how you post it, and you may also be motivated to spend less time in "fluff" activities online. This is very true, many know me here, my name, where I live...I always felt safe openly discussing it, but using the same screen name everywhere, even someone who matters so little to this world picked upped stalkers. After one overt threat, I let them know I am a retired law enforcement officer and asked if they wanted to keep it up...it went away quickly. I seldom ever visit other sites under that name "Pa Pa" anymore.Bill Lee
Stone holm Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Not sure I agree with this advice, unless the person intends to avoid posting altogether . If I currently had teenagers, I don't think that I would want them to permanently brand themselves because of some stupid unfiltered comment in social media. This appears to be a GA living in a bubble world advice.
