Stargazer Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 For those unaware of where the SA is taught in the Temple, listen for what is being explained when the phrase, "The day will come..." is spoken, in the prologue/introduction to the endowment before the ordinance/ceremony proper actually begins. It's kind of spelled out. Because it's not reinforced in outside discourse, many don't pick up on it, or assume it's not something of-this-life. But it's taught in the context of the ordinances physically received in the temple. it is taught, repeatedly, and quite specifically, in both the initiatory ordinances, and in the endowment's prologue. Ah ha. Yes, now that you mention it. And now that it comes to mind, I did after all recognize it for what it was at some point. A mind is a terrible thing to mislay.

ERayR Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Thank you, "David T," for your post. It is interesting how, sometimes, the Lord hides things in plain site. No the Lord hasn't hidden it. What is interesting how often we fail to note the obvious.
Senator Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 (edited) . ..... or assume it's not something of-this-life. But it's taught in the context of the ordinances physically received in the temple. That is how I've always interpreted the statement. As to the obviousness of the meaning of it to understood as an in-house ordinance??? I don't know. Edited September 23, 2013 by Senator
Kenngo1969 Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 No the Lord hasn't hidden it. What is interesting how often we fail to note the obvious.Well, yes and no. Temple rites are like parables. Those who have eyes to see and ears to hear will see and hear the deeper things of eternity. 1
Avatar4321 Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I don't disagree with your points. And anyone who knows of the SA can see those references in retrospect. But I still suspect that the majority of temple attending members do not know of the SA, and those that do didn't just figure it out from the endowment and initiatory sessions. And with what evidence have you determined that a majority of Temple attending members dont know about the SA let alone don't figure it out?
Stone holm Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 And with what evidence have you determined that a majority of Temple attending members dont know about the SA let alone don't figure it out? What evidence do you have that they do? I agree with WmLaw on this one based on my personal inquiries of local members.
WmLaw Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 And with what evidence have you determined that a majority of Temple attending members dont know about the SA let alone don't figure it out?Just my own opinions and observations. That's why i stated "I suspect that..."
canard78 Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Not responding to Temple baiting because of admonition. But I would challenge the notion that anyone going to the Temple comes back with knowledge of this rite. I am not saying that it doesn't occur, but I challenge the idea that longtime well read Mormons should be expected to know about it. I'll add my voice to a temple attendee of many years who can't think of a time or place in the temple when it's referenced. I have an idea where they may think that it is referenced. Stone holm, I'll PM you where I think they're referring to. I'd never considered it in this way and personally don't think it is referring to what they think it is. Given the number of members who have lived and died without a part 2 and with no action to make the part 2 an ordinance by proxy it doesn't make sense that it is an essential saving ordinance.

jmhughes Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I'm curious if anyone had read the book referenced in the topic/OP. While I kept up with the thread initially, I've not been on the board for a while and haven't read all the posts. If someone's reading has been referenced, I apologize for not doing my due diligence before asking the question. So if it hasn't been asked, and someone has read the book, what are your opinions? Thanks.
