The LDS recently built and dedicated a temple in nearby Kansas City, and a temple plot is owned by the Church in Far West, Missouri. The reason they don't built the Great Temple in the Center Stake of Zion in Independence, Misoouri (the site was dedicated over a century and a half ago), right now is that the property is owned by the Church of Christ, Temple Lot, and it features a nice lawn around which the RLDS and LDS own a lot of property. In fact the RLDS (now Coummunity of Christ) have built their own temple just to the east of the official Temple Lot.
