Another Gospel Is One Without 12 Apostles?

my cousin said that having 12 apostles is not part of the gospel of Christ. He said that in response to my idea that the true gospel was preached under the organization of 12 living apostles. i was using the scripture in Galations 1:6-9

Galatons 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

I say that another gospel is one with out the organization Christ set up.

what say ye?

Agree to pray for each other.

He is right, 12 apostles are not part of the gospel of Christ, they are a part of the church of Christ. The gospel is about the plan of salvation & atonement. The apostles are teachers of that gospel but they are not a part of it.

So the Church of Christ is not inextricably integrated with the gospel of Christ?

Can't you just imagine a Church member in Paul's day approaching Paul and confidently declaring to him that the day will come when living Apostles, Prophets and continuous revelation will no longer be necessary in the Church? Paul would be incredulous and flabbergasted... "10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;" (Eph 4)

When Jesus and his apostles were going about ministering, and some of them noticed that "others" were doing likewise in Jesus' name, they wondered aloud if Jesus shouldn't do something about "others" using his name without coming to him first, and Jesus' response was "he who is not against us is for us". Nobody has the authority to denounce "error" in the sincere efforts of another to live the gospel of Christ as revealed in the words of Christ. We can debate and disagree in some points of practice or usages, but the gospel of Christ is belief in Jesus the Christ as God made flesh, condescending to be man in order to save....

If by inextricably integrated you mean the same then no, they are not the same.

Are they linked... Sure - the church teaches the gospel.

What did the apostles say when there were those that assumed the authority to baptize or acted as if they held the authority to do so?

Your cousin is right. For one, the gospel was preached to Adam even before there were twelve priesthood holders on the earth!

After Jesus was gone from the world the apostles did the best they knew, which was imperfect and resulted in schism. There was never any chance that "the church" would remain one. That is what makes individual choice interesting. Personal religion is supposed to trump dogmatic organized religion, in the eyes of "God" at least, but not of man....

When did JS choose the 12 first in the Restoration? How long after the Church had been established?

So you are saying the concept of priesthood was an invented concept and was not taught by Jesus?

I was thinking of posting that first, but then I realised that the example of Adam is even more effective.

Just thought I'd show it wasn't a one time thing....

Priesthood was part of the Jewish religion Jesus was born and raised in. But casting out "demons" is a gift as well as an asserted power of a priesthood holder. Anyone who can cast out demons in the name of Jesus, and this the disciples said was being done by a "nondisciple", must be exercising a spiritual gift....

3 Nephi 27:13-21 is a good summary of the Gospel, which includes a judgment by Christ. In subsequent verses He indicates that He will do His judging with authorized servants, which in this instruction (verse 27, picking up from 3 Nephi 12:1) are twelve in number, and also in Mormon 3:18-19 and 1 Nephi 12:9-10). I also think that ‘”judge” additionally might also be meant to convey the administering of priesthood functions (baptism, confirmation, ordination, etc.).

Both of these ideas get into the relationship between the Church and the “fulness” of the Gospel. It is interesting from the Book or Mormon that that the fulness of the Gospel (whether it is mentioned in 1 Nephi in connection with the Lord’s mortal ministry or in 3 Nephi in connection with His teachings after His resurrection) requires a Church with a fulness of authority that has been delegated and exercised on the earth through twelve ministers.

Adam seems to to been taught the Gospel gradually, beginning with some instruction in Moses 5:5-7, and eventually to the point that "all things [which I take to mean the "fulness" of the Gospel, which from the Book of Mormon seems to include "twelve"] were confirmed" to him (verses 58, 59).
