ERayR Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Hmmm. Discussion is one thing subscribing to their ideas is quite another. Are you willing to take that argument to the Protocols of the Elders of Zion or how about the many Anti-Mormon screeds out there?Huh?
Popular Post MorningStar Posted May 29, 2013 Popular Post Posted May 29, 2013 If Fox News isn't real news, TSS, then why did the DOJ decide they just had to get into James Rosen's personal email account? 5

wenglund Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 It is funny how many people trot out this line while complaining loudly about the bias of the mainstream media and how it cannot be trusted.Since I "trotted out this line" without "complained loudly about the bias of the mainstream media and how it cannot be trusted," nor do I see anything of the sort in this thread, what really is funny is the way some people use straw. Thanks, -Wade Englund- 2

wenglund Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Rule #2 from the Liberal play book: When called on Rule#1 (which is: if you don't like the message, assassinate the messenger), continue and broaden the scope of use of Rule #1. At all cost, don't engage the substance of the message. Thanks, -Wade Englund-
wenglund Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Are we not allowed to mention what people have said in other threads now?Irrelevancies are permissible, as well as straw, though ill-advised.Thanks, -Wade Englund-

Godwin's Law violated for the sake of justifying one's own bigotry.
The Nehor Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 (edited) Rule #2 from the Liberal play book: When called on Rule#1 (which is: if you don't like the message, assassinate the messenger), continue and broaden the scope of use of Rule #1. At all cost, don't engage the substance of the message. Thanks, -Wade Englund-What substance? A small group within the DOJ sent out a memo. Let us look at the substance:Note that those who sent the memo have no enforcement mechanism and no direct support for the memo from management. This is akin to a party committee at my job asking for my help at an event. I can ignore it with impunity. The people playing this up know this but does it show up in the reports springing up like wildfire on the internet? They are all disingenous. The idea that Obama is behind this is equally absurd. It is akin to attacking Mormons by saying they believe Jesus and Satan are siblings. While true you leave enough unsaid to make the hearer assume the worst. Edited May 29, 2013 by The Nehor 1
Buzzard Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I just know that if I received that brochure in an official email, I would feel uncomfortable. I have worked around gays and lesbians, and common decency goes a long way, but it's a two way street. I'll smile and say "good morning", and of course be professional, but I expect to be respected for my beliefs as well. Should a gay manager have a Bible on his desk to show me that his office is a welcoming environment for Christians? Now, if the office "out and proud" guy was running around putting these on everyone's desk, I'd say thanks and put it in the round file, Neanderthal that I am.

What I meant to do was hit quote and note that you don't seem to be following that story too close. The current information, in the DOJ scandal seems to go right up to Eric Holder himself.

If by "current information" you mean "wild speculation" then we are in complete agreement.
Madmardigan Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I work within the DOJ umbrella and haven't received anything like that. We do "celebrate" LGBT month though. Signs everywhere and speakers come in. It isn't well received.I wouldn't be surprised to get this brochure stuff in the next LGBT month though.

Agreed nothing has been proven to any legal standards but the investigations are going on. Nothing was provable on Nixon's group at first.
Calm Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 (edited) I was about to ask what exactly the topic of this thread was...the media or the brochure...and I was leaning toward the media just by post count, but the last few posts have come back to the brochure so I am hopeful there might be something to talk about. (I would suggest if people don't want the thread closed that more brochure posts than media posts be posted...just an observation)Nehor, even with no official enforcement policy, is there other evidence that a manager could safely ignore this and just toss it in the garbage? The 7 Habits of Highly Effective ManagersInteresting they chose this title to attach to it. I wonder if there is a direct tie in to that book or they simply adapted it for their own use. Edited May 29, 2013 by calmoriah

I wouldn't be surprised to get this brochure stuff in the next LGBT month though. In your opinion, would someone who threw the brochure in the trash and completely ignored it be setting him/herself up for some disapproval from his bosses. It isn't well received. And it is not well received because it adds to the hassle of work life, for the subject itself (people disagree with LGBT promotion) or something else in your opinion.Anyone else here currently working in government offices who can contribute their POV of the current work environment in regard to this topic?

But there aren't many of those. I would venture to guess that most would throw them away and some will complain loudly while doing so.It is not well received because of the subject matter. The area in which I work has a very high number of conservatives.
Calm Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I work for the federal government and I see Chik-fil-a bags and coupons all over the place. Is the statement they are making is that they enjoy Chik-fil-a or is it more political? In your opinion, what is the environment like...friendly to all sides in general, promotion of LGBT interests as suggested by this one brochure, promotion of exclusion of LGBT interests, total lack of interest in the cultural adjustment going on or something else. And in your opinion is such environment more dependent on all involved or something being imposed upon the community from above, the immediate managers or something else?
The Nehor Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Nehor, even with no official enforcement policy, is there other evidence that a manager could safely ignore this and just toss it in the garbage?Yes, it came from an. Independent organization formed by employees. This is the equivalent of a lieutenant publishing his views on sexism in the military and telling Colonels and Generals what they should do. Normal responses: chuck it unread or read it and then chuck it and ignore it.

The area in which I work has a very high number of conservatives.Do they comment/complain about other higher up areas, such as Washington DC, that may be more liberal trying to impose upon them in the way suggested by the response in the article in their opinion (iow, do they agree with the interpretation of that article of what the brochure implies about what is intended by the higher ups at the DOJ) or is it more just a common attitude of wishing the outsiders would leave them alone to get on with the job or something else? Thanks for taking the time to share your relevant experience, btw. Adds needed depth to the conversation.
Calm Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Yes, it came from an. Independent organization formed by employees. Is it common for independent organizations to do stuff like this? Is there any oversight approval needed to get it passed around? For example, if a brochure was sent out with suggestions of how to create an environment that taught of the various health risks associated with the average homosexual lifestyle, could this have the same accessibility to the employees?

If the brochure comes out I will make sure to post on here the reactions.
Calm Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I would appreciate that. "Real life" info is always most useful.

From what I know about government agencies I could see it being much more common there.
