EllenMaksoud Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 I just wonder how other investigators having become members adapt to all the new phenomena in their lives that long time members seem so comfortable with? In the business before the passing of the sacraments on Sunday, there were at least a dozen things that I wanted to take note of but they were announced so fast that I only got two or three. Then in Sunday school, I noticed a woman reading from a sort of course outline that showed the scheduled material for the "year ?" It would have been much better if I had one of those, but where was it and when did I get it, I am sure I must have gotten one. So much to learn, so little time, with a less able brain.
Lachonius Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 No worries, it's difficult at times to adjust, as you said. To answer your questions, the announcements are usually found in the program for the meeting. They are usually handed out at the doors of the chapel, or on the back bench for people to pick up. The Sunday School guides are given out at the beginning of every calendar year; the Sunday School president or one of his counselors should be able to get you one. 2
oremites Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Don't be afraid to ask the person sitting next to you in meetings, even if you don't know them. In fact, you should especially ask them if you don't know them. How positive an experience you have in a ward or branch is directly proportional to the number of people you've made the effort get to know. I'm confident that every one there would love to help you. 1

Sunshine64 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Then in Sunday school, I noticed a woman reading from a sort of course outline that showed the scheduled material for the "year ?"I believe you are referring to the Gospel Doctrine Class member study guide. This year it would be the one for the Doctrine and Covenants. As stated, they are handed out at the beginning of the year, but they are also availble online at lds.org. Here is the link to this year's study guide. https://www.lds.org/bc/content/shared/content/english/pdf/language-materials/35686_eng.pdf?lang=engIn addition to finding it online, many smart phones have the LDS Gospel Library available for free as an app. There are many scripture apps but this one is made by the church. I love this program and use it every day. Among its many features, it has the gospel doctrine class member study guide right there under the shortcuts page. If you have a smart phone, get this app. The lds church has another app called LDS tools, which has a stake and ward directories and ward and stake calendars. Love that one too. 1
rpn Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) You can also get an lds.org account (which you can also use for the family tree) and sign up for alerts when different things are scheduled at church (so if you want to know everything, you would check all the different choices). You can list your preferred way to reach you and a photo if you want. And you can go there to look up who is in charge of various things, and contact info for ward members. Through store.lds.org you can also buy various manuals that you can keep at home, and even hanky's and temple clothes. Edited April 15, 2013 by rpn 1

It's so new, I haven't checked it out, should be interesting!
MormonMason Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Ask the Sunday School President or the Ward Clerk for one. They usually have several left over in the cabinets in the Ward Clerk's office after handing them out. 1

Calm Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Many wards print the next week's lesson in the bulletin handed out in Sacrament Meeting. If your ward is not doing this, find out who the bulletin person is and ask them to do so.
Garden Girl Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 There also might be some in the Ward Library.People, people!! You have only to go to your ward library for a free copy on the spot... no need to go online and order one, etc. If your ward doesn't have a library (which I can't imagine) then ask the ward clerk, etc to order one for you... They are available through the Distribution Center at no charge when ordered by wards. Each year a study guide is available for the particular scriptures we are studying... i.e., BoM, D&C/PoGP, Old T., New T. Ward libraries order enough to have on hand for distribution at the beginning of each year, plus during the year as needed. GG 1

I was sitting next to a non-member in a Sunday School class, who leaned over to me and asked, "What's a pearl of great price?" I wanted to hug her! We long-time members forget how it is for others who don't know "Mormon-speak". We definitely DO have our own language and it can be confusing to others. So, again, please ask! We LOVE having you there and are so anxious to help.
