Cleaning Church Buildings

I don't think the church inc. is doing anything unlawful but I don't think a billion dollar mall is the best use of the Lords money even if it didn't come from tithes

I don't mind helping with building cleaning from time to time, as long as I am asked nicely. If someone comes up to me and says, "You've been assigned to clean the building on such-and-such a day," I'd be tempted to respond with a smile and "That's nice. Sorry I'm not going to do it." But if they ASK politely if I could please do it, I am much more likely to say "Yes." If they want free labor, the least they could do in return is be respectful.

Sad to say that the same guy got stuck cleaning all the windows that had done it the week before. Usually we have families with children that love doing that part. It's just an off month I guess. But I do think it worked better when people signed up. Our HP are in charge of delegating it for 3 months and our EQ the next 3 months and then the other wards do the other months. So not bad I guess.

No longer an edit button. I mistakenly put 3 months, it's 2 months each for EQ & HP to be in charge.

I feel for whomever is in charge of this. So many times it falls on them and their families to do the job. Why did the church lay off the paid janitors? Was it that they thought the members of the church needed one more service? It's always the same people over and over that get stuck with jobs in the church because they'll do it. I'm sorry but I had to rant on this. When will the leaders see that this is being overextending?

Sorry, this is an older thread, but I just saw it and it hit a chord in me. My husband and I are assigned to work with a YSA branch. Our branch is VERY small. We share our building with 2 other wards, and so four months of the year we are on cleaning duty. One of the branch presidency has to be there each Saturday morning cleaning day. This means numerous "opportunities" to clean each year. Plus our building is a 20+ minute drive away. I don't have young children who need to learn to respect the building. My kids are raising their own kids now.

So what do you do? Somebody's got to clean it. So we grin and bear it and bring donuts for those who show up to help. But in this respect, I miss our big home ward, and our chapel that's only 5 minutes away, when we had this "opportunity" only about once a year.

I hate how I sound in this old post! I just think a paid janitor would help the economy just as well as the City Creek mall would. I truly did not mind helping clean the church in the old days where cleaning toilets wasn't on the list. And it's my wards handling of it too.

Well, this thread has hit home. Guess who get to be chief buttkicker in our ward. By the way tacenda,I just had a member ASK to do the bathrooms! Just so you know ,our complex is probably the biggest ward/stake complex in the church. We have 9 ,count em NINE washrooms alone plus font etc.

Our local chapel, which is not a stake center, has ELEVEN toilets, thanks to a recent remodel. This is more than the rest of our stake combined! We used to have only three, and in over 20 years, I never once recall waiting in line. No one can figure out why we got so many. IMO we should keep most of the stalls locked and unused, to save on cleaning time.

Ah, so, tithing donations, fast offerings, missionary fund contributions, and funds spent at ZCMI are all the same! Gotcha! Thanks for clearing that up. ;)
