Duncan Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 (edited) To my shame, I grew up in Coutts. I've never heard that phrase.oh! I man like you! haha!I have a million friends in Alberta that they tell me about all this stuff and I have never heard of it before, like Rockband, tim-Tam slamming, "Gooder" Edmonton being called "E-town"-we call it deadmonton due to all the murders happening- I and my friends are cosmopolitan kinda peoples but these practices are new on me! I love them all and have now heard of this stuff Edited December 2, 2012 by Duncan
blackstrap Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 To my shame, I grew up in Coutts. I've never heard that phrase.I just went through Coutts today! I go to the border about once a month to pick up stuff from ebay etc. I liked to visit the old 'museum' there. Some neat displays. All gone now, even the carved Indian. Nice chapel though.I think someone is pulling Duncan's chain with those phrases. 1

Nice chapel though.I think someone is pulling Duncan's chain with those phrases. The museum owners died and nobody wanted to take it over. It was disappointing to me, but at least we got some of the land for the new building. I was one of the first two priests to bless the sacrament there. H. H. Smith is my family's company and my grandpa was the first Coutts ward bishop. His dad was an early president of the Coutts branch. Not that that makes me special, I'm the black sheep of the family, I just like having roots.

Calm Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 I think someone is pulling Duncan's chain with those phrases. header, gooder, giver (mostly Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba, although this is also used in parts of the United States): As in, to leave, it was great, give it all (or alternatively, to leave), respectively.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West–Central_Canadian_English
Duncan Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 http://en.wikipedia....anadian_EnglishThis is so totally going facebook right now! Thanks for the find!! 1
blackstrap Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 I have used 'header' ,as in header south but it comes from 'head her' from the cattle world.Push her head in a southerly direction.I have also used ' giver ' but in the form of ' give her' as in giver some gas.' gooder ' is not in my vocabulary, I prefer ' better '

I just 'yes I really like that one, it's nice!'
