Duncan Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I'm certainly not saying it's good for anyone. But is it more addictive and dangerous than alcohol or tobacco? I don't believe so and so logically, i haven't seen any good arguments against it's legalization that don't become unreasonable when compared to these drugs that are allowed. What are the benefits to using MJ that you can't get elsewhere? What is the point of doing MJ or any drug?
Duncan Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I won't sue you but gently remind you to avoid R-rated movies. um...hate to say what I have to say but where I live they ain't R-rated!...maybe the uncensored version maybe! I recall my sister and I watched the Doors movie on TV
Darren10 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I feel that this is one that would be open to personal interpetation. If it is something that legitimatly helps your health situation (maybe if you had glaucoma) than it wouldn't be considered "against the word of wisdom" . I have ulcerative colitis and have been constantly working with my doctor to come up with a perscription combination that keeps my stomach somewhat regular and many of the perscriptions health wise only hurt me worse and the toll it took on my body while taking them were rediculious. So I guess what I'm saying is that marijuana that helps your health situation couldn't be considered worse than other perscription drugs that don't help (that you've been perscribed). But thats just my opinion.I agree. Note that my opposition to marijuana is for recreational usage. i am open to cosidering legalizing it for medical purposes though frankly, I do fear that too would lead to a higher overall consumption of the magic herb. 1

Kemara Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Again, what is it about weed that brings out such irrational thought?I think people are concerned with a potential slippery slope. Personally I dont find the typical slippery slope arguements very compelling. There are counter arguments using the same logic in conjunction with perfectly legal products. My position on this issue is not made on any of the slippery slope or counter arguements. This line of reasoning misses what I found most objectionable. I have a bit problem with the government usurping ownership of my body. 2

In Canada here a meat plant in Brooks, Alberta mucked up some of the Canadian meat supply and people were crying foul saying why weren't there more Gov't inspectors to inspect the meat? yet when there wasn't a crisis people didn't want gov't inspectors-Who is to take over when you or someone else has lost control of your body? who is to fund rehab centres to help you gain control again?
pogi Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 What is the point of doing MJ or any drug?Really? I thought you watched the Cheech and Chong movies! The point is to get stoned! I can see how it would be appealing at times.

I dont see how government meat inspectors has anything to do with the government usurpring ownership of my body. The government telling me that this particular batch of meat is contaminated and not fit for human consumption is nothing like the government forbidding me to eat any and all meat. pogi Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 who is to fund rehab centres to help you gain control again?I was in Canada bicycling through British Colombia. I've been to Nelson, I've never smelt so much pot. I never saw anybody out of control.
Duncan Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I dont see how government meat inspectors has anything to do with the government usrupring ownership of my body. If the government made meat illegal then you would have a point. The government telling me that this particular batch of meat is contaminated and not fit for human consumption is nothing like the government forbidding me to eat any and all meat. The Gov't is saying now that MJ is illegal and you shouldn't take it. I have a responsibility to take care of my body so I can be a responsible member of society in which I live and abide by the rules thereof. I don't see that happening if we are stoned

There are better growing conditions as you go north
blackstrap Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I'm curious what the extent of illegal alcohol production is? If MJ were to be legalized and regulations adopted for the production and distribution and taxation of it, and HALF of all the money currently spent by all levels of gov't to prosecute crime involving MJ were then put to education and treatment re drug abuse, society would be better off. As I have said before, such legalization MUST be accompanied by stiff penalties around the use of MJ while driving and operation machinery. 1

It's only illegal to possess them or distribute them.

In your previous reply to me you said:who is to take over when you or someone else has lost control of your bodyDuncan neither you nor I have control of our body, we do not own it, the government does, and I find it objectionable. The principle of cannabis prohibition, in my personal view, has nothing to do with the cannabis itself, it has to do with the principle behind cannabis prohibition - ownership. 1

Mudcat Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 As a former pot head, and a really big one at that.. I mean, I could teach a class on impromptu water bong construction.I will say.. I miss it once and again. The first time I got high I managed to extract every Payday candy bar from the dorm snack machine. They were ambrosia. It made sex, jokes, hanging out and lots of other stuff seem better. All that said, I don't think it's "good" for you.I do think my memory and intelligence has suffered from it though. I don't blame my exposure to it for my lack of finishing school, though I think it contributed heavily to it.The first line of Coke or tab of LSD or hallucinogenic mushroom or crank or crystal meth I tried was only after I was high first. When they call it a "gateway" drug. I would agree with them. That said, I don't have an issue with the legalization of it.. as long as they tax the crap out of it while still destroying non-regulated markets on price point. Though, I don't think it would change much. It's more than readily available through illegal pursuits and the general sense of the public is that it's acceptable on some level. 3

Kemara Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 (edited) fair enough but the Gov't only is interested in us or our bodies when something runs afoul! and they want to prevent thatThen why can I buy and consume dangerous amounts of alcohol? Why can I consume McDonalds all day every day and become morbidly obese? Why can I consume food that is full of pesticides, insecticides and other poisons? Why is GM food aloud on the supermarket shelves? Why can I purchase as much over the counter pain medication as I can afford? Personally it makes no difference why the government usurps ownership over something that should solely belong to me, I find it objectionable. Edited November 28, 2012 by Kemara

Duncan Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 CFR.taxes to pay for everything!!!! every year are you for serious! ha! if they owe you then it's the run around but heaven for bloody bid you owe them then they are all up in your grill-there are programs in place so you don't become a permanent burden on society

Are you saying that if you perish you perish unto yourself? you and you alone should say what you eat and whatyou take into your body and you have no one to help you if something goes wrong? i.e. you baked your cake now eat it!
