Calm Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 his topic points more to the absurdity of the the verbatim standardsWas it a church member who reported it in the news as if it was news? Was it a church member who brought it up here?
Ares Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 I said that I'm not going to play this game with you...Don't start games you don't want to play. Goodbye Craig.
theplains Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 As a matter of fact, the Word of Wisdom is one of the best commandments we have because it is so much a test for us to actually exercise wisdom in the Spirit. Niggling over a few specific "dont's" is so messed up compared with the overall notion of the commandment to be wise in what we take into and use in our bodies. Even the "dont's" are subject to wisdom -- not subject to excuse but subject to wisdom. According to Support Materials for the Law of Health, it says, "The Lord also counsels us against the use of hot drinks. Church leaders have said that this means coffee and tea, which contain harmful drugs. We should avoid all drinks that contain harmful drugs".Since coffee ice-cream is not a hot drink, it would seem to be allowed, except for the part about containing harmful drugs (whichwould ban even coffee ice-cream.Regards,Jim
Verum Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Was it a church member who reported it in the news as if it was news? Was it a church member who brought it up here?I am not referring to the article, just to the overall issue of church members wrestling with the idea of coffee ice cream or no coffee ice cream under the word of wisdom.
Calm Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 I don't think there is a much wrestling going on as claimed except on message boards like this one where a lot of the wrestled is from nonLDS saying that LDS make a big thing about it while the LDS are actually going 'no big deal'. Since I have never heard it discussed anywhere at church and the only other place outside of this forum was when my son when he was twelve got some free chocolate mocha ice cream at a restaurant, didn't know what mocha was at the time until he tasted it and then he wasn't sure what he should do so I tasted it, told him there was likely little coffee in it if at all, could just be flavouring and it was up to him. He decided not to eat it, we supported him by not eating it ourselves (It was good) and haven't talked about the subject since.
Calm Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 (edited) Just did a google search of "coffee ice cream", "coffee flavored ice cream", "mocha ice cream", "mocha flavor ice cream" on lds.org.....not one hit. In fact, no coffee flavored anything!!??!!!So much for wrestling... Edited August 22, 2012 by calmoriah
CASteinman Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 (edited) I would like to consider an uplifting perspective that perhaps a few here might be interested in.https://www.lds.org/...ur-day?lang=eng Edited August 22, 2012 by CASteinman
