CASteinman Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Well the reporter reported it...so I assumed he also witnessed it...turns out that he in fact didCFR that he did, in fact, witness it. He does not even claim to have witnessed it.I knew that that was NOT enough evidence for you...you expect such a ridiculous standardActually I don't consider it a ridiculous standard at all. It has nothing special to do with Romney or ice cream or the election or coffee. It has to do with how I read almost every news story. They get stuff wrong.I took the added step to actually call Millie's restaurant and talked to the employee (Amanda) who served Mitt his Coffee Ice Cream...BUT...I also KNOW that my word is not suffient for you either so call her yourself...I told her that Mormon's like to scrutinize what other Mormons eat or drink and may be getting a few weird calls...so she is actually expecting to hear from you.I called. They told me that there is no Amanda there. I said someone talked to her within the last 24 hours. They said "No Amanda works here"The CFR still stands.
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 This behavior ...this level of judgement and scrutiny of what others eat or drink is discusting, disturbing and is a freaking page out of "crazy town"Judgmental? Ok what ever dude.I have always maintained that one should not drink coffee or tea (black and green) in any form. Weather it is hot or cold or with or with out caffeine. No one really seems to care much about Mitt having ice cream except you. You brought it up. I would have never cared or thought a second about it had it not been brought up on this board. I think you just want something to rant about.\Well you got your chance.
Craig Paxton Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 I called. They told me that there is no Amanda there. I said someone talked to her within the last 24 hours. CASteinman Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 OK....You're really creaping me out....but did you ask to talk to the girl who served him his coffee icecream?I asked for Amanda -- as you instructed. She was not waiting for my call... she does not exist.
yootaw Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Wow. The cleanup team got there fast. The deneuralizers are working well though. Crises narrowly averted.Too bad that Amanda's memory had to be sacrificed for the cause. :-)
Craig Paxton Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 (edited) I asked for Amanda -- as you instructed. She was not waiting for my call... she does not exist.Ok I'm not going to play this game with you...if you want to believe that Mitt didn't indulge in eating coffee laced with caffeine ice-cream...No amount of evidence to the contrary is going to convince you...I provided a contact number and name...you claim that you had them on the phone...why didn't you just ask them?I stand by my information. KevinG Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 So if it is Mormons who have an unnatural obsession over what people eat and drink why did it take the press to bring it up and Craig to start a thread on it here? When Mormons start boycotting the local grocery and demanding they stop selling coffee give start another thread Craig.
alter idem Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 (edited) At least according to Mitthttp://www.eastvalle...1a4bcf887a.htmlYep, along with coffee flavored candies, mocha see's chocolates and Fernwoods' Jamoca Almond Fudge icecream it's not against the word of wisdom for 98% percent of LDS adherents. If you are trying to cast aspersions on Mitt Romney it won't work since most LDS have a clear understanding of the purpose of the Word of Wisdom and what is and is not prohibited in it. yootaw Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 So you take his word over mine? Interesting...but expected...Nope. It seems clear that mitt partook. My poor attempt at humor...
yootaw Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 I am also a bit creeped out that this would be an important enough issue for either if you to call the restaurant.

I celebrate his choice of coffee ice cream and hope for the day when every latter day saint can do likewise without fear of judgement or reprisal
Craig Paxton Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 I am also a bit creeped out that this would be an important enough issue for either if you to call the restaurant. Not to mention embarrassing...which it was...but I told them that this was a story of creepingly importance to Utah...and to please for give me
KevinG Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Given that the Bishop asks me if I keep the word of wisdom and doesn't get into specifics of what flavor ice cream I eat I don't fear any reprisal other than the revenge of my waistline.

Verum Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 (edited) Yep, along with coffee flavored candies, mocha see's chocolates and Fernwoods' Jamoca Almond Fudge icecream it's not against the word of wisdom for 98% percent of LDS adherents. If you are trying to cast aspersions on Mitt Romney it won't work since most LDS have a clear understanding of the purpose of the Word of Wisdom and what is and is not prohibited in it.As I mentioned earlier, most coffee ice cream is essentially COFFEE, just frozen, and each serving can contain the same amount as caffeine as a regular cup of coffee. If 98% of LDS adherents thinks its okay to have coffee ice cream, that is fine, but it is simply illogical to do it under the belief that the ice cream is somehow not coffee or does not contain the same contents as coffee. This topic points more to the absurdity of the the verbatim standards put forth by leaders that church members adhere to as opposed to adhering to sound principles, which in this case should be to eat healthy and be free from addiction. That is how the Word of Wisdom was intended at the time it was given, as many continued to even drink alcohol many many years after it was revealed. More and more studies are being done on the effects of coffee and most are trending towards more positive health affects. If someone can eat ice cream casually and maintain a life free from dependency on coffee ice cream, they should clearly be able to do the same with an occasional cup of coffee, but if a church member is seen drinking a cup coffee, iced coffee, or iced tea even ONCE, they will likely receive harsh judgment and would not likely be trusted in leadership even though they probably adhere to good principles of good health and free from addiction. alter idem Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Well...it's been confirmed...coffee icecream is now ok...but hot drinks..coffee and tea still forbiddenhttp://www.sltrib.co...ffeine.html.cspCraig, it never was NOT okay. Having grown up in the church I can tell you that Jamoca Almond Fudge is a very popular ice cream flavor among members. I've never looked at other members and judged them as breaking the word of wisdom because they liked the flavor of coffee. Who cares, other than judgmental busybodies, if some members of the church choose to eat Coffee ice cream. It's not prohibited. Members of the church are asked to abstain from tea, coffee, alcohol and tobacco as a requirement for attending the temple. As a life long member, I follow these guidelines and have no qualms whatsoever about any LDS person eating coffee ice cream because it does not violate it, just a numerous food items which have small amounts of alcohol or coffee do not present a danger to members. Some members are very strict in their interpretation of the WofW and will not eat coffee ice cream, but that is a personal choice. They should not use their own choices to judge other members. If any member has a question about their own interpretation, they can discuss it with their Bishop.Christ said that we would be judged by the standard we used against others. If that is the case, we probably want to judge people less harshly.

ERayR Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 I'm not allowed to post a new topic since I'm such a noob. Someone can start a new thread with this as an OP or just answer it here:I recently bought my lady E-cigs from Vaporsmiths to replace her smoking. Worked great and now she only uses them. Brought up the question, are these things WoW friendly? No tobacco, no tar, just a vaporized cloud of flavor and nicotine. Much thanks....Is it OK to keep inhaling poison?

Otherwise, I think it falls in the category of drinking caffeinnated soda.Drinking an occasional cup of coffee won't hurt you physically and MAYBE there might even be some slim health benefit (personally I don't believe the studies are accurate) but if you are an LDS member, drinking it hurts you spiritually because you are not being obedient to the standard set for temple worthiness and doing so makes you unworthy. THAT is the problem with it.There is a reason for following the Word of Wisdom and it is set up for the very weakest of saints. Any of us can choose to abstain from drinking alcohol, coffee, tea and using tobacco--that is the very minimum standard, the standard of obedience set by church leaders. For those who really want the spiritual blessings, they will probably study it and change their eating habits from the spiritual promptings for them personally.
