Official: Salt Lake City Is The Gayest Of The Gay

It's so bad to be homosexual in Salt Lake City, mostly because of the eeeeevil Marmunz who dominate politics and society there, that the City of the Saints is the most "Gay [sic]" city in USmerica, by their own measure.

Salt Lake City, the church home of presidential hopefuls Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman, is the gayest city in America.

The Advocate, a gay culture magazine, has released its third annual list of the 15 "gayest cities in America," chosen by its editors according to a decidedly unorthodox set of criteria.

"[D]o we really need another article telling us that the homos gather in West Hollywood and Hell's Kitchen?" the magazine asked, rhetorically. "That Northampton, Mass., is still Lesbianville, USA?"

Instead, each U.S. city was evaluated on the basis of whether or not the city has a WNBA team, a gay-themed bookstore, a place to practice nude yoga, and a chapter of the International Court — a charity fundraising organization that hosts drag-queen shows and costume balls.

Other criteria included how many gay, bisexual or transgendered city officials hold office, and the number of International Mr. Leather competition semifinalists who live there.

Overall scores were adjusted according to the size of each city’s resident population.

The 15 gayest cities in America, according to The Advocate, are:

  1. Salt Lake City, Utah
  2. Orlando, Fla.
  3. Cambridge, Mass.
  4. Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
  5. Seattle, Wash.
  6. Ann Arbor, Mich.
  7. Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn.
  8. Knoxville, Tenn.
  9. Atlanta, Ga.
  10. Grand Rapids, Mich.
  11. Little Rock, Ark.
  12. Portland, Ore.
  13. Austin, Texas
  14. Long Beach, Calif.
  15. Denver, Colo.

I do not believe it...Atlanta has ranked #2 for a very long time. San Fransisco has always topped the list. Orlando near the top I believe.

They used different criteria. Ask a different question, you'll get a different answer.

Cathedral City has a gay majority city council and Palm Springs is heavily impacted also. The results have been skewed for press purposes. I would like to see specifically how they weighed different characteristics. I bet they had a foreordained outcome, and as we all know, foreordination is not something we trust.

Is there something wrong with Salt Lake City being the number 1gay friendly city. It was the LDS church which voiced support for anti discriminatedation based on sexual orientation. And it is nor surprising that SLC would have an abundance of gay themes things. Based on Christened lament over Jerusalem it would seem Jerusalem wasn't the was a place of what would be considered bad things. None of will want to admit it even true but could the LDS Church push for a limited live and let live be responsible for greater acceptance of all things gay.

I was pointing out the discrepancy between what The Advocate found and printed and what we hear here about how awful it is to be homosexual in Salt Lake City because we Saints are so horrid to them.

It’s no secret that SLC has a thriving gay community, but I have to question the #1 ranking. In my opinion, the city was given this designation at least in part to stick it to the Mormon Church.

And honestly, all of the larger cities in the country (and the world) tend to be gay friendly nowadays.

Lehi,

What do you "hear here about how awful it is to be homosexual in Salt Lake City because [you] Saints are so horrid to [us]"?

Please share some specific examples/posts of what you're referring to.

I don't know, nor do I care.

All too true.

My point, as I stated clearly above, was that there is a huge gap between the "Salt Lake City is the Gayest [sic] of the Gay[sic]" article and the Marmunz-H8s-Gays-[sic]-and-makes-us-kill-ourselves crowd.

How many articles have there been (and how many would it take) to convince you that many in the prohomosexual mob have attacked the Saints?

The whole Prop 8 thing, the "The Mormon Church is responsible for my son's Suicide" coverage in TV and in the countrywide print media, and a vast number of other examples are widely available. Thus, the Call for References is met by the concept of it's out there.

Although Salt Lake City is still culturally associated with Mormonism in a big way, less than half the population are actually members of the Church. Also, it is a pocket of blue in a sea of red. So I guess this ranking sort of makes sense.

I have the same CFR as Daniel2, when I read your comment I thought "What is Lehi referring too".

So that we are clear on your CFR, you refuse to provide documented support for your claim.

Prop 8 is quite different than your claim. Where, when, who provided tv coverage "The Mormon Church caused my son's suicide"; and what does gay mormon suicide have to do with be gay an living in SLC.

If you have the evidence to support your claim, your claim being how hard life is in SLC for homosexuals because of Mormon dominated politics. The latest media I have read from SLC concerning homosexuals and "mormon dominated politics" was the LDS Church voicing its direct support for prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation.

You are more than welcome to support your claim to admit the hyperbole or histrionics of your claim.

I have lived in Salt Lake, and I have lived in the Palm Springs, La Quinta area. The difference is palpable. That is why I know it was done merely for the press and nothing else, pre ordained outcome, nothing more.

That's right. The common reaction to opposition to their agenda is to proclaim that you must be a closet homosexual.

So your documentable bias towards homosexuals is proof positive that what ever claim you make against homosexuals is in fact true. In essence because you are biased against homosexuals, then it is true that there is a nefarious agenda behind of SLC being deemed #1 gay friendly city?

Daniel here.

Jaybear here.

By ending their lives, all these gay Mormons chose silence, and yet at the same time they sent a compelling message about the overwhelming challenges they were facing. Some of them even made explicit statements about their personal turmoil. "I implore the students at BYU to re-assess their homophobic feelings," wrote Stuart Matis in The Daily Universe shortly before committing suicide. "Seek to understand first before you make comments. We have the same needs as you. We desire to love and be loved. We desire to live our lives with happiness. We are not a threat to you or your families." My friend DJ Thompson was even more explicit in his suicide note: "It is unfortunate that the lives of good people such as Stuart Matis, Matthew Shephard, and many others go unnoticed," he wrote. "I see Proposition 22 as the last straw in my life-long battle to see peace in the world I live in."

For bishops and other stakes leaders, my message is simple: Do not believe that you understand what it means to be gay or lesbian. Never threat a troubled soul with discipline or with excommunication. More importantly, never recommend to anyone a "treatment" that is unethical, unscientific, or unrealistic. Many of the gay Mormons who have taken their lives did so after being the victims of these "treatments."

"A Witness Sealed with Blood: Gay Mormon Suicides and the Politics of Silence"

I live in Salt Lake City....in the "gayborhood" of Marmalade. I own a business in the "gayborhood" of Marmalade. My city council Rep, Stan Penfold is gay. Prior to Ben McAdams, our Senator, Scott McCoy is gay. Our Democratic Party Chairman Jim Dabakis is gay. We have one of the largest gay pride parades in the nation.
I think it’s very funny when someone says the church is not to blame. Yes, an individual ultimately makes the final decision, but that decision was made because of the church. They tell these kids, “if this is who you are then you are going to hell”. They are bullied, judged, blamed and probably molested through their short life, left with no other options. “If I am living this hell, and I am going to hell anyways, then; Why should I keep on living?” That is what most of these kids will say to themselves, I would know because I was like them, but for my luck I was taken away from my family at a very early age.

Another Gay [sic] Mormon Suicide in Utah

There's more.

However, the call for reference rule does not apply when the the statement in question is generally known. I submit this falls into that category.

See above.

I am not biased towards or against homosexuals, regardless of your somewhat confusing post. I just know by experience that cities with greater homosexual authority in those cities have a tendency to be more in favor of the homosexual lifestyle than those cities which remain neutral to the issue. It is both straightforward and common sense. Unless of course you would argue that a city like Cathedral City, whose city management from mayor down is dominated by gay men and women is somehow less inclined to be in favor of the lifestyle. I look forward to seeing your reasoning since it would have to be a heck of a counter intuitive argument.

In reality, nothing at all. Homosexuals commit suicide at an elevated rate everywhere. Those suicides merely get exploited for political purposes by pretending that the Church and/or its members somehow forced them to do it.

CFR that the board guideline excuse a failure to fulfill a CFR. you might want to read up on the guideline before refusing to provide references.

Also, why are you post John Kateel? His statement does not support your claim that homosexuals claim how hard life is in SLC because of the mormon dominated politics.

It is perfectable acceptable to admit that you made histrionic statements.

Frankie,

It is absolutely bog-standard gaygitator propaganda to claim that being "gay" in Utah is utterly miserable, and that is why "gay" Mormons commit suicide at an ever-increasing rate. That canard gets trotted out every time there's a news story about a "gay" suicide.

I'm surprised you're not aware of it. You must not pay much attention to "gay" issues.

But as far as I know, the board guidelines only require people to honour CFR's for statements that are actually disputed or not well-known to be true. Issuing CFR's for indisputably true assertions (the sky is blue, the grass is green, homosexualists routinely claim that it is suicidally unbearable to be "gay" when surrounded by Mormons) is mere badgering.

If being gay is so horrible in Utah as a whole, then perhaps they should consider moving down the road to Salt Lake City.

It's a much shorter drive than Los Angeles or San Francisco, and less expensive.
