I thought this PBS piece was quite well done: My link

well done! Not really the domain of this piece but I would be interested in hearing from other singles (divorced, widowed, inactive) or marrieds (spouse left the Church after Temple wedding) in a variety of life situations that don't fit the "salvation is a family affair" situation

I'm widowed, no children (sealed to my husband a year after his death). I believe that salvation is a "family" affair. I will be with my family to whom I'm sealed... my parents and sister, my dear hubby, my grandparents, etc etc... and my hubby to his family... and our families linked together. My husband's mother died when he was 8 years old, and her death affected him his whole life. Now he is sealed to her and his father, grandparents, etc etc.

I understand what you were saying about singles in various situations where we are not sealed to a spouse, but that does not preclude us from being sealed to our family line... and the teaching is that we cannot be saved, i.e., salvation, without our dead...

from the beach on a cool, heavy mist morning... the days are becoming shorter... leaves are already falling from the trees... this is when I feel a melancholy, and even more so when we have the warm Chinook winds that signal the coming of Fall.

The husband store - joke

A store that sells new husbands has opened in New York City, where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates:

You may visit this store ONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the value of the products increase as the shopper ascends the flights. The shopper may choose any item from a particular floor, or may choose to go up to the next floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building!

So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband. On the first floor the sign on the door reads:

Floor 1 - These men Have Jobs.

She is intrigued, but continues to the second floor, where the sign reads:

Floor 2 - These men Have Jobs and Love Kids.

"That's nice", she thinks, "but I want more."

So she continues upward. The third floor sign reads:

Floor 3 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, and are Extremely Good Looking.

"Wow," she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.

She goes to the fourth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 4 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Good Looking and Help With Housework.

"Oh, mercy me!" she exclaims, "I can hardly stand it!"

Still, she goes to the fifth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 5 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Gorgeous, Help with Housework, and Have a Strong Romantic Streak.

She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor, where the sign reads:

Floor 6 - You are visitor 31,456,012 to this floor. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please. Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store.

Hello TSS...

I was fortunate... my dear one was a Floor 5-er... <_<

True Story: One time shortly after my husband and I were first married we had family stay over for the weekend... it was late Sunday night by time everyone left and I was just too tired to clean up everything so I went to bed, planning to clean the next evening when I got home from work (there was a ton of dirty dishes, laundry, unmade beds, etc etc). Monday I went to work and it was a particularly busy day. Every now and then during the day I'd think about what awaited me at home. Driving home that night I was very tired but knew I had to take care of things.

I walked into the house and... WHOA... the living room was in order... the kitchen sparkled with all dishes, pots/pans etc washed and put away. I went through each room and was greeted with neat and sparkling rooms... tears were welling up as I got to the last bathroom at the back of the house, on the counter was a bouquet of red roses and a card... "Because I love you... Ray"

He was a keeper, and he stood beside me in all ways all of our 38 years together...

I am 53...soon to be 54 in Nov....never been married... :(

I dated quite a bit though....as much as I could considering I was not blond, beautiful and busty. It's hard to date in UT especially in my age group when the men my age are surrounded with beautiful women who are younger, taller, thinner then me.....men don't want a gal their own age, they want that trophy on their arm.

I'm still on a couple of LDS dating sites....have met several nice guys through the years...they just didn't float my boat or I didn't float theirs.

I had pretty much given up. I spend my time with my girlfriends, traveling, shopping, going to movies etc. I'm lonely sometimes... but contented. :)

Miracle of miracles....a guy in my ward...a widower.....my Gospel Doctrine teacher no less!... asked me to dinner 2 weeks ago! And we are still going out! We have another date this Friday....and one next Sat to a play his 16 yr old granddaughter is in!

Talk about blindsided! I never saw this coming! I'm still baffled by what he sees in me.....but..I'll just go with the flow and see what happens! :)

Ive been trying to encourage one of my best friends to get married. I can't get him to ask out a girl. Even the girl he liked alot he wouldnt ask out and now she is on a mission. I just wish he were happy and I know not being married a concern of his. Ive realized since not long before I was married that I was a fool to wait so long. I just didn't see it. It was so obvious but I didn't see it. Im ashamed of that. But Im glad I am happy now.
