jo1952 Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 I just thought you might be interested in learning that Franktalk is a new member of the Church. Also, we got married on March 4, 2011 and are planning to be sealed in the Temple as soon as he has been a member for a year. We are truly blessed! We are living proof that love can find you even when you're old!!! We know we were supposed to meet; Father has had His hand in this!!!Frank is the one who introduced me to apologetics about 2 1/2 years ago when we first met; though most of our time has been spent on a preterist website. He is currently enjoying his time here on Mormon Dialogue although he did post a couple of times back in 2009. Figthistle, a poster on this website, who also posts on the preterist website, has been a tremendous source of support and encouragement all through this process. Love,jo 1

jo1952 Posted May 21, 2011 Author Posted May 21, 2011 Well, it would have been nicer if you had met on this board, but it still sounds really cool. Thanks!! Actually, he had introduced me to the preterist website. After I got involved with that, some of the other LDS posters told me about this website. So I joined here first, and later introduced it to Franktalk. He investigated the Church for 2 1/2 years, was convinced that Joseph Smith was a Prophet, and that the Book of Mormon held no contradictions to the Bible. I finally told him that if God had revealed all of this to him, then what was he waiting for? I said he might as well try to get on a boat and head for Tarshish like the reluctant Prophet, Jonah, had. He looked at me and said, "you're right!". He immediately called the full-time missionaries and had them set a date for his baptism. It was just awesome!!He had only become a Christian about five years ago and had done so because his studies in quantum mechanics and particle physics had brought him to the conclusion that our "reality" was being controlled by an unseen, super natural reality. So he started reading the Bible looking for answers. He studied the Bible for about two years before he would believe. On our very first date he told me this and that he was still searching for more truth. I couldn't believe my ears! Within a few days he was reading the rest of our standard works, telling me the entire time, "just don't get your hopes up, I pick everything apart. If it doesn't all add up, I'm going to abandon it."He brings a very uniques perspective to his comments. He was also advising me that I should start putting together what he called "a year's supply" of food - this before he even knew that this was something the Church has been teaching for a long time. I hope you have a chance to catch some of his posts. Of course, I'm not the least bit influenced or being partial!!! Love,jo

However that's spelled. I love it! I am not an astrophysicist, but I try to keep informed about it and the latest bits in astronomy, too (hence my member-name), and the more I learn the more it confirms what I have discovered through my membership in the Church. So this post of yours tickles me tremendously! I was baptized waaaay back in 1966, when I was fourteen, but early or late, it's always a good time. Which triggers a reference to one of my favorite movies, Smoke Signals, and a paraphrase of a catchphrase in the movie: "Sometimes it's a good day to die; other times it's a good day to be baptized!"FWIW, the actual catchphrase was: "Sometimes it's a good day to die; other times it's a good day to have breakfast!"But anyway, the last part of any good post should contain the most important sentiment, so here it is:Congratulations to Franktalk for his membership in the Church: welcome Brother! And to both of you for tying the knot! May it never become frayed!

However, I have come across many like him. Frank would have loved to take him head-on! I see that you are as old as we are!! I was baptized back in 1974 at the age of 22. I went to the link, though, and it looks like something worthwhile seeing. So, thank you for the heads up!But anyway, the last part of any good post should contain the most important sentiment, so here it is:Congratulations to Franktalk for his membership in the Church: welcome Brother! cinepro Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 For those, like me, who didn't know:Preterism is an interpretation of Christian eschatology which holds that most or all of the biblical prophecies concerning the End Times refer to events which have already happened in the 1st century after Christ's birth. The system also claims that Ancient Israel finds its continuation or fulfillment in the Christian church at the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. The term preterism comes from the Latin praeter, which is listed in Webster's 1913 dictionary as a prefix denoting that something is "past" or "beyond," signifying that either all or a majority of Bible prophecy was fulfilled by AD 70. Adherents of Preterism are commonly known as Preterists.
