LAST DAYS

I saw this quote today.

"We know the prophecies of the future. We know the final outcome. We know the world collectively will not repent, and, consequently, the last days will be filled with much pain and suffering. Therefore, we could throw up our hands and do nothing but pray for the end to come so the millennial reign could begin. To do so would forfeit our right to participate in the grand event we are all awaiting. We must all become players in the winding-up scene, not spectators. We must do all we can to prevent calamities and then do everything possible to assist and comfort the victims of tragedies that do occur."

Deborah:

Step in wherever you see a need. Vote for the best, or run for political office ourselves.

Give a teacher not only a hug, but a pay raise. They earned by teaching you, but 30 just like you also. :P

I agree. This ignores the counsel to be actively involved in the events leading up to the Millenial Reign.

I am actively involved in increasing tensions to start World War III, am petitioning for looser standards on the handling of dangerous substances, am preparing myself to become the Anti-Christ (you should see my costume) and am breeding ship-eating mutant sharks to help God make the waters dangerous in the Last Days.

How are others getting involved?

We must never give up on promoting family values and missionary work. We should strive to seek peacefull solutions to conflicts rather than jumping on the war mongering bandwagong, we should decry the unjust systems that abound such as our unjust financial and money sustem, corporate power grabs over agriculture and energy. We should strive for independence by being debt free, making our own food locally and seeking solutions to evergy problems and cures for diseases. The corporate/government power grip has no intention of solving energy problems or curing diseases, they loose power if they do, they are trying to get a grip on food with GMO crops and seed patents so we must oppose them by making our own food.

Be spiritual, a light to the world and your own family. When you gather your food storage, store enough for your next door neighbor. Send a little extra to LDS humanitarian services.

The Lord gave us what to do 180 years ago. Preach the Gosepl, gather the people to Zion, and consecrate. We have ignored that counsel- it is no wonder destruction will begin at His own house. We of the Restoration need to repent, and repent NOW.

If we are to follow the Brethren in this matter, one of the things that we can do, and the one which will bare the most fruit, is to disassociate ourselves with the government-run, tax-funded (grtf, aka welfare) schools, what have been accurately described as "the 12-year sentence", "State Youth Indoctrinatation Camps", and "Youth Incarceration Camps". (Given the concurrent topic on "Planned Parenthood", aka "Premeditated Murder, Inc.", we might also add "Penile Colonies", but I will restrain my impulse.)

No one here has been able to show that the counsel by the Brethren, from Brigham Young on to Boyd K. Packer, that we should flee them, has be rescinded.

The reason we have Family Home Evening is to combat the influence of the grtf-welfare schools. The reason we have Seminary is to combat the influence of the grtf-welfare schools. Were we to follow the logic of the Brethren when they established Seminary for high schools students, our third graders would be bundling up at 6:00 am to go to the ward house for Junior Seminary.

When the Saints start following the Brethren's counsel to take charge of their children's education, never to allow an infidel to teach their children, to start every lesson with prayer, even the "multiplication table", then we have a chance, as a people, to avoid the calamities foretold. Otherwise, we are guilty of over "rendering unto Caesar", because our children are not among the "things that are Caesar's".

This is hilarious.

I'll ask because I'm interested and confident you've got them: can you post some quotes from church leaders saying we should pull our kids from public school?

Thanks!

Here are a few from several of the Brethren. You'll be quick to note that they do not explicitly call for Family-Centered Education, but for parents to control the education of their children, which is not possible in the grft-welfare schools of today (nor any other time, for that matter):

Many of you may have heard what certain journalists have had to say about Brigham Young being opposed to free schools. I am opposed to free education as much as I am opposed to taking away property from one man and giving it to another who knows not how to take care of it. But when you come to the fact, I will venture to say that I school ten children to every one that those do who complain so much of me. I now pay the school fees of a number of children who are either orphans or sons and daughters of poor people. But in aiding and blessing the poor I do not believe in allowing my charities to go through the hands of a set of robbers who pocket nine-tenths themselves, and give one-tenth to the poor. Therein is the difference between us; I am for the real act of doing and not saying. Would I encourage free schools by taxation? No! That is not in keeping with the nature of our work; we should be as one family, our hearts and hands united in the bonds of everlasting covenant; our interests alike, our children receiving equal opportunities in the school-room and the college. (Journal of Discourses Vol. 18, p. 357)

We had to pay our own schoolteachers, raise our own bread and earn our own clothing, or go without; there was no other choice. We did it then, and we are able to do the same to-day. I want to enlist the sympathies of the ladies among the Latter-day Saints, to see what we can do for ourselves with regard to schooling our children. Do not say you cannot school them, for you can... I understand that the other night there was a school meeting in one of the wards of this city, and a part there

LeSellers:

Thanks. Those were interesting. My wife and I have often discussed home schooling our children, but haven't quite decided to dive in yet.

WRT to the OP, I certainly think countering the false ideas that reach our children (from whatever source) is something that needs to be done to take an active role in preparation for the coming (and already arrived) calamities.

I think you are right, because sometimes I feel tempted to sit back and do nothing, and give up because I feel so helpless, tempted because of what Mormon said:

"And it came to pass that I utterly refused to go up against mine enemies; and I did even as the Lord had commanded me; and I did stand as an idle witness to manifest unto the world the things which I saw and heard, according to the manifestations of the Spirit which had testified of things to come." (Mormon 3:16)

I guess the Lord hasn't commanded us to stop trying like he did Mormon, so we have no excuse to not do something.

I saw this quote today.

That speech was given over 20 years ago.

Do you see strong evidence that the world is any closer to the predicted end-time conditions now than in 1990?

And it's even more appropriate today. Kind of prophetic.

Sorry, I'm not following. I read the quote again, and I don't see what is "more appropriate today," nor do I see anything to indicate that the predicted end is any nearer. That applies to speeches from 20 years ago, as well as all the "end times are imminent" speeches I used to hear 45 years ago.

Maybe the end of the world is one of those things that will always be about 20 years away.

As I look at the calendar, I notice it is 21 years later now than it was then.

All I see is hype. The media reports EVERY disaster and calamity it can get its hands on. In "Zion" (Utah to everyone but Mormons) we are supposed to be up to our collective armpits in a cesspit of sin and degradation. Every Sunday I hear members of the Church bemoaning how wicked the world is and is getting: reference to "Sodom and Gomorrah" and "in the days of Noah" are used as comparisons. Yet the latest GA's don't wax on this way; instead we have Hinckley saying, "I don't want to sound like a prophet of doom" (words to that effect). They are careful to avoid fear-mongering and extreme reference to "the last days". I say times have changed, for the better.

People are just the same as they have always been. Most are 99% honest, most will stop to look for a missing child of a stranger, most donate to charities, raise good children and try to be involved in their community; most people decry injustice and get outraged with corrupt gov't, etc. I do NOT see an increase of immorality: however I do see a broadening of the definition of it, to include more than your own religious point of view. This all seems good to me....

And that is interesting because the prophecy is, not that there would be wars and earthquakes, etc., but that we will hear of them.

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

Yeah, that whole repent and prepare message throughout the scriptures is sooooo passe. Good thing we have people now to tell us how super we are and how everything is going great.

Gag me.
