DoctorX Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Hi, I'm new to this board. I'm a BIC, RM, BYU-graduate, temple-married Mormon. I had a crisis of faith a few months ago, and I'm here looking for explanations and info on my questions. I don't think I'll ever go back to holding the beliefs that I once did, but I want to stay in the church for my family's sake. And I (usually) like it.I tend to disagree with the politics of most church members (I'm a pro-gay marriage, pro-choice democrat), and I don't hold the orthodox views of God, the prophets, the priesthood, Jesus, or almost anything anymore. I like to discuss ideas, thought, and I'm trying to figure out how I can understand things in a way that I can keep contributing constructively in the church.-DoctorX

bluebell Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Welcome. How is your wife handling the change in your beliefs? I'm sure that must be tough.
LDSGuy Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 DoctorX, I'm new as well. I just got started today.
Garden Girl Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Hello Doc...Welcome to the board... I think you'll like it here. We have several more liberal, but faithful, LDS here on the board. One of my favorites is thesometimessaint... we are poles apart politically, but he still remains faithful. Perhaps you can approach him as I'm sure he won't object to my mentioning his name. Otherwise, I'm sorry you've had such a challenge to your faith and things you used to hold dear. My own history as most posters here know, is that I had a strong testimony growing up... but then married non-LDS and eventually slipped into inactivity for 30+ years. But all during the time I was inactive, I would have occasional promptings to return to Church as I would pray or read my scriptures... finally, 14 years ago (about 3 years before my dh passed away) I did reactivate and started all over again at square one. As I studied, prayed, and fasted, my testimony came roaring back and I've been TBM ever since.I hope you can find the answers you seek and are able to comfortably remain active.from the beautiful central Oregon coast... Garden Girl
thesometimesaint Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) Hi Doc:While I can only claim to be Moderately Conservative Liberal. Sometimes it does feel like I'm a lone voice crying in the wilderness. But I've enjoyed my experience here, and at church. I think all of us at one time or another have had some type/level of a crisis of faith. The strong will work it through, and be better for it. As long as you don't take ANY of us as the last word on LDS Theology you're good by me. Hold high to your principles and trust that the Lord knows the intents of your heart. TAO Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Hey DoctorX, how are you, and welcome to the board =D.BTW... thesometimesaint... I'm not old enough to be in a political party, but I think I'd fit in there too. Hehe, so you aren't alone after all =D.
Blossom Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Hello, Doctor, and welcome!I'm new too....not baptised yet and new here as well. And I'm a registered Independent.I work in retail, and I have a bumpersticker on my car that reads: "The more I see of people, the more I like my dog."I am sure you'll get things worked out. Sometimes faith and belief issues are hard to deal with, I think, but not impossible.Blessings,Blossom

Well for your politics, the Church itself is much more liberal than its members. My husband is also a fairly liberal Mormon. I suppose I am as well, but my passion is not the same as his. As for the views on Jesus, prophets and God, we are both pretty alined with the Churches view, but I am not sure your views so I wouldn't say we disagree with you. Yet. Anyway hope you enjoy the board.
thesometimesaint Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 TAO:Some times I feel as though I'm older than dirt. I've been a Republican, a Democrat, and a Green. Now I'm too old to care much about party's. Unless it is the party hearty party kind. NONE meet my needs, though I still hold my nose and vote. I fought too long and too hard for the 18 year old right to vote to change now. My generation didn't do too badly, though there is still a long way to go. Guess I'll have to leave the good fight to you youngsters. Good Luck.

I was just referring to like wear I would be place if I had to join one... most likely I will not... because now in Cali, we have a better election system in terms of parties - no solely voting for your own party in the primary =D.Hehe... tbh, I don't think I'll be getting that involved in politics... people are just so 'intense' over it, and yah... it becomes rather pointless. We really DO need a hearty party.
