Jesus warned those who were being led astray by a false prophet at the church in Thyatira, he warned them that if they continue they will also die like the false prophet they follow. False prophets can deceive the very elect. A person can have the knowledge of Jesus and call Lord, Lord, prophesying in his name, and doing wonderful works but yet Jesus does not know them. The Bible says that in latter times some shall depart from the faith taught by the apostles and some will not endure sound doctrine. Jesus warns us that false prophets can show great signs and wonders. Jesus said that many false prophets shall arise and they will deceive many. False prophets bring heresies; heresies are a work of the flesh. Heresies are contrary to the oral and written apostolic traditions. The Bible tells us mark them and not join them that cause division, offences contrary to the doctrine which we have learned from the apostles. Sound doctrine comes from inspired scripture. Scripture is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, and for correction. Paul reasoned with scripture. Stephen who was full of faith and power debated. The disciples of Jesus are to rebuke those who have turned from the truth so that they be sound in faith. We are to convince and exhort through sound doctrine. We are to earnestly contend for the faith which once delivered to the saints. The apostle Paul spoke boldly, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God. Paul disputed in the market daily with them that met with him. When Philip converted the Ethiopian he did it by teaching him what scripture revealed about Jesus. In the early apostolic church people compared Paulâ??s words with scripture to see if they were true. The Bible tells us test all things and hold fast what is good. The Bible warns Christians to test all spirits because there are false prophets and that there are seducing spirits which will cause some to depart from the apostolic faith.
