How do you feel about them?

Would you attend one?

Would you feel comfortable attending one?

Given an open mic opportunity, would you speak? What would you say?

Should members face church discipline for attending or supporting such a conference?

How do you feel about them?

Not sure I understand the question.

Would you attend one?

Sure. I haven't but a very very very very active grad school buddy of mine attended in DC (I believe). He said it was a lot of fun as he and his wife met some interesting people and heard some interesting talks. If I have the opportunity I'll probably attend one of these days.

Would you feel comfortable attending one?

Sure.

I have no idea.

Should members face church discipline for attending or supporting such a conference?

I hope this isn't a serious question. Should member face discipline for attending:

  • The FAIR conference?
  • Sunstone?
  • Rod Meldrum's seminars?
  • Book of Mormon land tours?
  • Buying Chris Heimerdinger books? -- I actually think the answer to this one is an unequivocal YES because I feel bad taste in literature is an exommunicable offense.
  • American Academy of Religion annual or regional meetings?
  • Star Wars convention?

1 I think they serve a purpose and can be of great benefit to those who want such a group.

2 I have attended one.

3 I spoke at one on an open mic. I talked about my questions, concerns, journey and the fact that I am still active and happy to be so.

4 No I do not think a member should face discipline for attending one. Do you?

I hope this isn't a serious question. Should member face discipline for attending:

I saw one podcast that mentioned a friend of his that was being "threatened" with a disciplinary counsel due to his involvement with a conference. My question was simply in response to this.

Should a member of the church that is a temple recommend holder feel wary of attending or supporting such a conference in light of the recommend question:

Do you support, affiliate with, or agree with any group or individual whose teachings or practices are contrary to or oppose those accepted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

How do you feel about them?

--- its the potential start of an apostate Church with a boring service.

Would you attend one?

--- Maybe for half a day -- one time out of curiosity.

Would you feel comfortable attending one?

--- I have a hard time sitting anyway and especially when things are boring -- and this would be boring to me. So.. probably not.

Given an open mic opportunity, would you speak? What would you say?

--- Nope. Nothing to say there.

Should members face church discipline for attending or supporting such a conference?

--- I don't know. Probably not yet. Maybe down the road. We shall see.

Never been to one, so I can't say.

Would you attend one?

No.

No.

I would give the stand up monologue of Joe Rogan's "Talking Monkeys in Space".

I'm not a judge in Israel and pray that I never will be, so I don't know or care.

At least they would be in good company, don't you think?

Not if they were apostate. Although many apostate Churches have very interesting services. Even edge of your seat scary.

if a Mormon Stories thingamajimmy came to where I live I most certaintly would go, not because I am a follower of Dehlin but just because 'round here (cue Counting Crows tune) few have heard of the Church and I would be interested in seeing who shows up!

...Should member face discipline for attending:...

Star Wars convention?

Only if they attend dressed as one of the characters. ;)

Depends on location, cost, and if they have decent seats so I wouldn't have to stand up the entire time.

I am not sure if I would attend a meeting of Mormon Stories; however, I did listen to about 40 minutes of a video on Dehlin's facebook page. I was not offended by anything I heard; some of the people I truly felt a sorrow that they were in such pain; then they have some pseudo intellectuals that spout pure drivel and insipid summaries of what they thought were "truth".

I would not feel uncomfortable attending one.

At an open mic? I have no idea if I would feel like I needed to speak.

Discipline for attending? Is this a serious question?

How do you feel about them?

From what I've heard, they have been very helpful for some people.

Would you attend one?

Yes, definitely.

Would you feel comfortable attending one?

Sure. Why not?

Given an open mic opportunity, would you speak? What would you say?

I might (or not). If I did, I might say something about my journey out of the church and difficulties encountered.

Should members face church discipline for attending or supporting such a conference?

I think that would be a very bad move on the part of the church....so, no.

I would attend one.

I would go to the open mic. I would call them all to repentance, having those who were moved by the Spirit come forward and proclaim allegiance to Jesus and his Church. For those that did not come forward, I would dust off my feet and with the repentant believers eat lunch at a nearby McDonald's, while watching the fire and brimstone fall upon those major apostate sinners.

Of course, we would film the whole thing and post it on Youtube and Facebook, as a warning to all others that try and attend such conferences in the future.....

I haven't heard of the conferences. Where might I get information about them? I can't rightly answer the OP questions before learning what the conferences are about, who is speaking/attending, if there are costs involved, locations, etc.

Thanks, -Wade Englund-
