Long distance hugs.  Hope it gets better or at least more manageable for you so you can spare some thought and time for more rewarding things.

My daughter and husband are spacing on how Canadians celebrate the 1st and the things I remembered they are telling me were the Calgary Stampede days.

So can you refresh my memory on what cities usually do to commemorate the 1st, please?

We didn’t get our Canadian flag out this year.  I was having an extremely lazy day as it was a bust week last week and a busy week this week, so I took me time and that turned into binging a Korean show, lol.  I was going to start a thread with “O Canada” but it was so late in the day I was embarrassed.

I want to become a Sunbird (I don’t know the correct term, but this seems the reverse of Snowbird) and spend mid May to mid September in Canada.

July 1st is a national holiday and celebrated all over, however some towns go all out . My little town has a fun run and a pancake breakfast the day before , then a parade on the 1st ( unless it is a Sunday then the parade goes on the preceding Saturday). We also have a pro- rodeo around the 1st. The town population about triples as all the kids and their kids return for the festivities . Big fireworks in the evening also. Calgary has the Stampede this week end so it goes after the 1st.

The temp was mid 60s on the 1st in Calgary…I am so homesick.

The thing is.... there are no hugs left. I have no contact with my parents anymore. But there is more going on that i'm really worried about.

But i'm at least happy that i'm not in Portugal anymore. Because that didn't went well.
