The illustration has 2 Nephi 4; 19 written on it, so it’s the prophet Nephi who’s being depicted.

Thanks my friend. If it is Nephi depicted, then approximately what years might it be depicting? 600 BC, or so? Just curious!

He didn't actually start the plates until sometime after they arrived in the Americas (1 Nephi 19:1).

For LDS, this is a Nephite prophet etching the plates.

Instantly clear as a bell.

Perhaps you should check the topic of this thread.  You wouldn't want the mods to erase your private stories now. 🙂

The topic of the thread is related to non-LDS/LDS spiritual differences and whether or not the non-LDS have the spiritual wherewithal to make covenants and perhaps other spiritual commitments. The fact that this is even a topic of debate is astounding to me. I am one of the few active non-LDS Christians, non-ex-LDS on the board. So yes, I personalize things a. to inject some humor into the conversations, and b. to reveal the joys, concerns, strengths, and foibles of the non-LDS Christian to the LDS-Christians, who like you (at times) tend to have some rather inaccurate views of and generalized beliefs about the non-LDS Christian community.

I know of no better way to do that than to share my personal stories - my testimonies, spiritual experiences, foibles, questions, etc. If the moderators choose to delete the same, then so be it. That will be one less opportunity for you to "know" at least one non-LDS Christian LDS-Christian friend up close and to some degree, personally. For all I know you are a moderator. If you prefer erasing my "stories" then have at it. I will probably continue putting them on as long as you keep posting your philosophical soliloquies. 😄 You and me . . . we are two peas in a pod!

Well, if you would like - either here or somewhere else - I invite you to share the story of how you came to live in the middle of a non-English speaking area.

 

Perhaps there would be a way to tie it into what covenants you were under at the time?

Well yes, since Wittgenstein turned philosopy into postmodernism , with a LOT of help from his friends and predecessors, I have decided to take another direction.

Joseph Smith was helping lay the grounds toward our contemporary postmodernism, believe it or not.

Turning religion into personal revelation is a VERY postmodern idea, and apparantly as I have learned here, no one thinks philosophically anymore, nor do they understand it.

They are too busy seeking "personal fulfillment", which sounds a whole lot like personal revelation in a secular way, to me.  Religion becomes what you do "religiously"! Save the whales? Work at it and get others to pray to the "Universe"!  In the name of Nature, Amen!

No metanarratives = no "doctrine" and no "authority".   

Like it or not, here comes the tsunami, so get them boats ready- we must see and speak of religion differently, based on the subjective.

So I guess personal stories are all we have left.

But for some of us personal stories become personal testimonies and personal revelation.   After all, they are the best way I know to "personal fulfillment".

If religion is what you do "religiously", just being on this board must be "religion", then ....(as young scholars say at 40 times in every sentence)..  "RIGHT?"
