Iphone chargers

We have now been in a position to loan an iphone charger to a friend several times. Problem is that we don't have iphones, but we are thinking of getting some just for situations like this.

So my question: is there a generic charger or do different phones work with different chargers?

As far as I know, all the iphones (at least those of the last few years) use the same kind of charger, but sometimes only apple chargers will work correctly.  Apple's kind of sneaky like that.

Also, what works with an iphone doesn't always work with other apple products.

Thank you!  So far people have asked only about iphones only so that is good.

With Apple, it usually isn't the charger itself that's the problem - it's the cable. Even ones that have been certified by Apple sometimes run into issues. That being said, there are absolutely third-party options which are cheaper and just as effective.

Amazon sells this one as a bundle which will both (1) do the trick and (2) not break the bank: link

Or, if you care, you can spend a little more money and get them as separates and then pick a longer or shorter cable (whichever you prefer): charger only | cable only

There are other options out there which support more ports and whatnot, but if I was just keeping something around as an 'extra' charger that I could potentially lend out (and then not get too upset if it didn't get returned) this is probably what I would go with.

And longer lasting.

That is what I would do too.  It is basically what I have ended up with…getting rid of a lot of extra plugs and just kept the cables with two plugs in case we need to charge more than one at a time.
