Just this week, another bishop was arrested for sexual abuse. Why is the church such a magnet for sexual predators? https://apnews.com/article/religion-utah-salt-lake-city-sexual-abuse-by-clergy-4c889c88a1f3c4e4d00502abbbefd737 Cases in the church are going to be taken up in the news more, that’s all. If you search the registry for sexual offenders in your local area, I think you’ll see what I mean. 2

Without a plea deal, they probably wouldn't have been able to convict him. That was true for my guy too. If he hadn't confessed, there would have been no chance of conviction.

In Police work, we often knew them by the way they acted. Very often after the Hell they endured in prison, it is often very hard for them to make eye contact, with anyone with an alpha personality, male or female. This leads to red flags in many cases, via traffic stops, especially when they are they in a neighborhood (especially at night) to do harm to another. Also when probation officers show up without a schedule to someone’s home, if they protest too much! Yeah, but they can be on probation when they get out without the registry and everything I have read about sex offender registries makes me think they are a waste of resources. The reoffense rate is pretty low. There was a false report bandied about a few decades ago that recidivism was really high but the source was wrong but it still got passed around all over the place and even made it to federal, state, and local training manuals and the like.

This guy confessed to one, maybe two, cases. So that's basically what they ended charging him with. The 5 cases came from the victim, though it didn't seem like they knew if it was actually 5 incidents or 1 incident retold 5 times. I'm surprised about the fact that they didn't add the "position of authority" qualifier since he was definitely the babysitter but there was argument in the case about whether that counted or not. 1
